I murdered my demon fish. : (

Took 4 days to catch my super aggressive damsel fish. I bought 2 knowing I should have waited for fish I wanted to keep. My lfs talked me into them just as loaners. So last night he finally goes into my custom 2 liter fish trap. My plan was to trade him in today when the lfs opened. When I woke up he was dead. My guess is ammonia poisoning from having 4 day old fish food decomposing in the 2 liter bottle he was tapes in. The worst part was this morning it hit me that could be a problem so I rushed out there to move him to some clean water and he was gone. My only question is could stress have killed him over night or was it deffinately an ammonia spike in that bottle? Also to anyone out there in the future using or showing others how to make a fish trap please warn them to have a place to move them to and not to leave them in the bottle for very long.

Sorry to hear that, it could have been a number of things that killed the fish. Hopefully people will learn from this

Sorry for the loss.

I make small holes in the trap for clean water to come in and out but not big enough for the fish to come through. I just leave the trap in the tank until the fish can be rehomed.

That would have helped too. He was in the tank and I didn't even think about him not getting flow until this morning. I just hate knowing it's my fault something is dead and I should have done something to stop it from happening. He would slap crabs with his tail fin. Nip at the fin of the other fish and keep him locked in one spot in the corner of the tank. He would also nip at the nasarius snails antenna thing whenever they came up. So most people that saw him are happy he's gone but, when I got out of this hobby 10 years ago it was because I hated watching things die at the lfs or in my own tank.
