I used to use a 44 gallon brute on a rubbermaid dolly. I would roll it to my utility sink for rodi / mixing etc.

I had a full can of rodi when A caster failed and all of the water splooshed into the family room with brand new hardwood. Some water got into the ductwork which caused some paint damage on the ceiling. Thankfully my wife wasnt home at the time. Luckily the only damage (other than the ceiling and some barely noticeable warping of the floor boards) was the loss of my refugium light. (transformer got wet)

Anyways, I will no longer be using the rubbermaid dolly on a 44 gallon brute. I could use a 20 gallon brute which is a bit too small or i could possibly build my own dolly for the 44. Ideally I would like something that was just as moveable but sturdier than the brute. Does anyone know if there is something suitable that exists? I cant seem to find anything through google.
Thanks
Jason

Dang....was the caster rusted out or do you know why it failed?

I've had one of these in place (though oddly I never roll it anywhere) for years and never thought about it collapsing. I personally know quite a few folks with them. I hope the failure was not a mystery!

Going forward, maybe consider a different solution where a pump is moving the water instead of you and a Brute can?

Granted your labor can be considered "free" so any other solution will seem expensive, but in reality your labor is not free, and neither are pumps to do the job for you. ;) Several folks here run automatic water changes systems you could look at for ideas. :)

Just a thought.

The dolly and trash can were less than a year old, the plastic around the shaft broke. I ended up switching to a 35 gallon brute which is a lot easier to handle. My wife and I are moving and theres a portion of the basement that's unfinished so i'm going to turn that into a fishroom. I have an AWC system that i'll finally be able to use.
