So I was wondering on what pump to use my lbs tried to sell a rio 1100 but I've seen sum horror stories. I also have another skimmer I'll post that later I think I need a sump for that. I'm running a 29gal set up for a year now going great just trying to upgrade. But need more knowledge . Also have two 29gal sitting with rock. Deciding if to hook all up run one as a sump, other as a frag tank then my d.t. any thoughts or suggestions on threads to read? Thanks guys and gals
Thanks. I want to get this skimmer running. I'm just being cheep for the moment. Prob gonna come back to haunt me. So would it be a bad idea to put these stacked tanks by my d.t.to use the bottom as a sump? What's your experience with hob
I used a Hang on the back skimmer 30 years ago that I made. They work you just to have to be able to adjust the flow with the pump well for them to work.So you have to get a good power head that has the proper amount of flow. The problem how days is that finding the pump.
New 1500L H 19W 400GPH Aquarium Submersible Water Pump for Fresh Salt Water | eBay
I'd use this pump, wide open. Get water drip line from Home Depot.
Drill a small hole in the fron of that pump, prefferable right in front of the impellar. Using an old medication bottle, fill it with cotton balls, drill 2 holes in the lid, one for the line, the other for air draw., stick the line in there, then into the pump.
Use this Impellar Mesh Mod
Your going to cut down the impellar slightly using a dremel, don't cut it all the way down, you need the stems to stick the mesh to. I super glued mine on, not wanting to use cable ties.
