It's a flamingo tongue snail and apparently it's bad for my tank lol

Moved to current forum. Neat looking snail. I have never heard of a flamingo tongue snail and after a little reading I am glad. Seems they only eat corals. Yikes!

That stinks because that snail is awesome! Reminds me of a character on I think old Star Trek?

Super old thread! I'm replying over 5 years after the last post, but couldn't find a recent search of this snail.

I picked one up understanding it 'may' eat GSP which is my form of GSP weed control. I placed it on one GSP island and it stayed there for a week so I assume it was happy and eating. It did move off eventually to go exploring on the glass and interesting enough came back to the GSP. ...so far so good.

Wanted to share the experience for others that may be in my GSP control search. If this guy stays healthy I will buy MANY MANY more. =)

Lol...hope he stays on the gsp for you and not something desired!

Me too. =)

So far has visited scolies, zoas and frogspawn. Seems more interested in scaling the glass and returning to the GSP.

It's been a number of months with this little guy in my mixed tank and wanted to report back for others that may be interested. So far it's still alive and I don't have any gorg. It's been mainly feeding on GSP and I know that because while it roams, it will always return back to the GSP islands. Also I have a GSP rock that is on the far side of the tank which it has not found yet. When comparing the 2 islands I noticed the polyp lengths between the two to be significantly different suggesting that it's eating. It isn't eating the underlying purple mat, but just the polyps.

I was experimenting if it will keep GSP under control: It's not killing it off, but does keep it short. And yes GSP seems to be an acceptable food source for those that want to keep one. Alive for 3 months...so far so good.
