I have had an explosion of something. I thought at first they were aptasia but nothing kills them. I have tried everything. I am considering removing all the rock and allow them to die off. Does anyone know what these are and/or how to get rid of them!? Please help, They have taken over EVERYTHING

Really appreciate any help thanks so much!

That is really nice looking rock, is that live rock or fake?

Have you tried injecting the mouth with Kalk? At least with Aptasia injecting them with high concentrations of Kalk killed the hell out of them.

Interesting, that's what it is. Does it move around? If not, I'd guess... maybe a weird anemone. Quite possibly not a pest, don't hasten to get rid of it. Can you take a pic in white light?

Yea it's a pest anemone. No known predators, I forget it's name

Oh, neat! Never seen one like that, so I can't say what it'll do. It may be one of those little guys that should be confined to its own rock to avoid it getting anywhere, it may be some kind that'll spawn and get everywhere regardless. I don't know. It's interesting, I say you keep it if it's not one of the spawning kinds.

It is beautiful. Deep purple with electric green accents. I have it on it’s one frag. We will see what it grows into.

Well, I've never seen anyone who's had a tank overrun by those. So it's not a common pest, at least. Then again, I've never seen those at all, so I don't know if it has the potential.

There are an assortment of small types of anemones that come in on rock sometimes, that can split at a notable rate but don't tend to spawn and get everywhere.

A quick test you could do- use tweezers to touch a mysis shrimp piece to its tentacles. If it sticks strongly onto the mysis and quickly curls up to eat it, it's likely to be an anemone. Corals will certainly do the same, but anemones tend to be a bit stickier. You'd also give it some fuel to grow a bit faster, and possibly give a quicker clue about what it is. Even if it is a pest, one or two anemones will take awhile to turn into a big problem, so you have plenty of time to figure it out.

I'd suggest making your own thread, titled something along the lines of "weird probable-anemone", to see if you can get the anemone lovers to come out of the woodwork and help you figure it out.

Thanks. Appreciate the guidance. I’ve had a 5 gallon for about 4yrs now and recently set up a 20 about 4 months ago. It is thriving and looking good. But I am not as experienced and this is the first time I ever become a member of any Kind of forum so thank you
