I need help identifying a possible parasite my fish might have

Hi my butterfly fish has 2 or 3 little white spots on his left pectoral fin. Do you know what it is he is in a 10 gallon quarantine right now and idk what to treat him with. I an just waiting for it to get worst so I can ID what the culprit of the spots are. He is active and eating. I did 2 fresh water dips and Nothing was left floating or at the bottom of the bowl I used after. What do you think it is I may just be overreacting but I see a white spot and it isn’t going away.

Wish i could give you advice but i dont really know lol. Somesone will show up with a better reply.
If it was up to me, i would wait and see, maybe observe the fish, is it eating well? is it scratching? Maybe it just hurt its fin too.

It is actually eating extremely well. The best case scenario would be that it just hurt its fin and it needs time to heal. The worst being ich and all the other nasty parasites and diseases out there ready to kill. Thanks for replying.

Following for more info. I got a Tomini Tang 2 days ago. In the LFS who I know it looked good and healthy. Today. There are of coarse white spots on the final. Looks I'd say identical to the ones in your pictures. I know how freaking hard it is to take pictures of them. I'm thinking flukes. But maybe look to small.

I'm currently worried about tanking it out of the display tank and causing more stress. But I could do a freshwater dip or put home in a QT tank with meds? But I'm new and don't know if I should see if the cleaner shrimp takes care of it.... Prolly not. Idk. So many judgment calls...

I would not medicate anything. Keep him in qt and observe. Marine velvet is probably the only thing to worry about.

Just do the tank transfer method and treat with prazi after a few transfer.

I know right I had to take a video and go back and screen shot the perfect pics. Also IDK what to treat him will because I have never dealt with this before. Can anyone recommend any sort of treatment I can use that is available at petco or petsmart I can order anything online without it taking a week or 2 to get here since I live in Hawaii and most websites don’t ship here and if they do I would have to pat a fortune on shipping. Also The Cleaner shrimp won’t get rid of what ever it is for long and I would remove him from the tank before it spreads. I introduced my butterfly before noticing to my DT and had to remove him in fear of it spreading I’m still worried. Best of luck.

The Petco here doesn't carry any good medication. It might be a company policy.

It actually look okay to me. Keep him fed, do a freshwater dip every two days and transfer to a completely new qt or sanitize the old qt before putting him back.

If its ich, the cycle can be stopped by doing the tank transfer method and little stress on the fish. For other parasites, prazipro is probably the way to go.

The treatment options you could use would be chelated copper, chloroquine phosphate, hyposalinity, or ttm.

Be careful doing too many freshwater dips, it is very stressful on the fish

How is the little guy? Luckily you have him in QT, so you're one step ahead of the game. Ich will leach itself to the fish for 3-7 days and then fall off. If it disappears quickly you can rule ich out.

If your findings point to ich here is a couple tips.

- Dose half recommended amount suggested and slowly increase over 2-3 days to the appropriate therapeutic levels.
- Don't combine the use of any ammonia reducing agents such as PRIME as it has a negative impact when used with copper.
- Get reliable copper tester. I recommend the Hanna checker.
- Make sure you have ammonia badge in the tank.

Common and viral with many butterflies. Mine had it (known as cauliflower) and it dropped off. Been almost a month and never returned. Be sure to add vitamins to its food as these guys are good eaters.
