I need help STAT

Tbert33, thank u thank u thank u!!!!! Very informative!!!! I know people may not mean to come off rude, but you can definitely since it when it's left at that. So that k u very much. I'm going to wait it out and see what happens. I know this is a great hobby, my uncle used to have a 150g tank that was amazing. However he's not easily contacted :) but thank u for ur kind words and encouragement :)

No worries. Only small sugfestions right now. The other option is to start a fresh but if your like me... once ive invested.in something i dont like to flush the money down the drain lol.

Aiptasia are an issue but despite what some may say... they can definatley be treated and removed. It may take time but they can be treated so its not the end of the world there. I used a combination of Aiptasia X for the big ones amd a peppermint shrimp that demolished my small ones. A very good friend of mine struggled for years with aiptasia... his tank was filled with them and he tried all sorts (short of removing the rock work that he had all stuck together) and he found that bergia nudis solved his problem... actually on one of the other forums im a member of loads have had amazing sucess with them.

Moving forward and once this issue has been put in the past and youre ready to stock corals id also recommend that you dip every coral before putting it in your tank. You would be surprised what pests come on corals.

If we are in the same country (im in the UK) i will have sent you a free frag or two once you were up and running fully ;);)

Pssshhhh I'll pay for shipping lol but I'm not looking to add ANYTHING for at least 5 more weeks and that ONLY if things have stabilized. I ran all this by the husband and he agrees, we're just gonna let everything run its course then go from there. Then if it dont work, we will just start over. We only have about $300 invested INSIDE of the tank so it's not a big deal but I'd like for it to work out lol

I didn't know you could kill Kenya tree. That stuff will grow and grow and grow. I regretted putting Kenya tree in my tank it has become more of a nuisance.

If I was you, I would look at getting about 5 or 6 berghia nudis. Their ONLY food is aptasia. Peppermints can get a liking to frozen food and never touch aptasia again... Berghia will breed in your tank and increase their numbers to a small army. The only issue is they will die off as the aptasia is consumed. You will want to get involved with a local club or consider giving them to the store in your area to help treat their rock tanks.

I do apologize if I came across rude, it was certainly not intended. Imagine the frustration, however, of seeing people make the same mistakes over and over again, all because they failed to research into something, before diving in head first. Especially a hobby as expensive, extensive, and potentially great as this one.

Search for Mr. Saltwater Tank TV on YouTube. He has some great videos on just about everything when it comes to a new hobbyists experiences. Also, read things from people like Marc Levenson, a person who has been in this hobby for a long time and has TONS of recorded information about keeping tanks. Try to learn as much as you can over the next few weeks, especially since your tank is cycling. You will have certain things happen, just during the cycle, that may cause you "freak out and ask what! why!? how?" but, if you read or watch the videos I mentioned above, you'll be prepared, looking for it, and will know what to do and what not to do, when it happens.

Hi and welcome to the forums. I'm new myself! I just started a smaller 30 gallon tank and as per the advice of members here, I am slowly waiting for this table shrimp to decay... seems to be taking forever. Looks kinda gross... hairy.. and smells awful... but I may leave the sucker in there until it's all gone. There's an article that's very informative here: How to set up a saltwater reef aquarium tank- REEFEDITION with lots of good stuff to read through. I ordered some life rock from BRS (bulk reef supply) and was very pleased with the rock they sent me. It's not live rock, but I understand it will become live over the course of a few months. Their Fiji, Reef saver and pukani is nice too. I'm actually about ready to order some more and also a pound of the simple multi branch to try. The rock is dry so it will not come with any funky pests. Just takes a little longer to cycle I believe. I'm sure the guys/gals here are not trying to be rude. There's nothing wrong with some positive critisism. It only helps you to learn of your mistakes. Even if they do seem rude, they are still offering solid advice which is meant to help you. They don't need to say anything at all if they don't want, so just be positive and take it in a good way. :) But I"m rambling. Hey, welcome to R2R!

A lot has been said already. Welcome to the hobby! I have one piece of advice that will go a long way and it's simple: do nothing else right. Slow down. Just wait.

How much did you pay for that live rock? In this hobby, Aiptasia, on a scale of 1 - 10 of terrible thing to deal with (10 being the worse), is about a 3. Now, depending how attached you are to this rock, and seeing that your tank is 9 days old, a solid option would be to ditch the rock and then slow down and research live rock. Don't add anything to the tank, and don't worry about no rock being in the tank. Don't worry about the Kenya tree. If you're sent on keeping the rock, then you have your first pest battle on hand and you will need to read about how to deal with Aiptasia, but there are tried and true methods for elimination so don't panic.

Anyway, don't give up, and just slow down.

lol! You don't need to keep the shrimp in that long. Once it is good and smelly, throw it out! I left mine in for like 2 weeks. You just need it to start breaking down so that bacteria can feed off the ammonia. Also I put mine in a baggy with holes punch in it to make cleanup easy.
