Ok guys and gals...

I am have a mid-reef crisis right now and it is stressing me out!

So the other day I found this new LFS. Place was great. Cleanest store I’ve ever been to and the owner was very friendly and helpful!

Ended up buying a bubble tipped anemone and a Skimz SH2 HOB skimmer. Got home and the skimmer was loud. Thought maybe it needed to break in so I ran it for 24 hours straight and still very loud. All in all probably going to return it. ANYWAYS...turns out when it rains it pours, my green clown goby and royal gramma have Ich. 2 clowns and yellow watchman show no sign.

This is my second outbreak and am tired of it. Have a few thoughts/questions

Thinking of a few options
1) I take all fish out and put in 29g to treat and go 8 weeks without fish in DT. My concern is mostly with stress in moving the fish and if my yellow watchman will find his pistol shrimp buddy

2) I keep the fish in the tank and let them ride it out and just live with ich in the tank

1a) if I take the fish out I was thinking of just drilling my tank to get it set up for a sump. Or is a HOB overflow box just as good?? I would then turn the 29g into my sump

I’m all over the place with decisions and it’s stressing me out!

How big is your DT? I’m sure your goby and others would be fine, just give them somethings to help them feel like home.were you already in the planning to make your 29 a sump?

DT is 40 breeder. I’ve been wanting a sump and my Petco is having their $1/gallon sale right now so I thought I would get my sump tank.

Figured I could use it for my QT until I drill my DT. Seemed like a good opportunity to do that if i tank the fish out. Or I just use a HoB overflow

No sweat bro.
Your first option is the best.
Remember it’s a hobby and overcoming obstacles is part of it.

Your second option isn’t bad either but your tank can be a ticking timebomb.
Yet quarantine every fish for other deceases.
Ick is the least one out there.

Skimz SH2 HOB skimmer. Got home and the skimmer was loud.

Consider an in-tank skimmer like this which should be more silent:

There's also one that comes packed with a power filter that will also hide your ATO sensors and the tank's heater:

(Not sure the tank size, but the air-draw on this is close the to skimmer you picked.)

I’ll definitely check these out!

Thoughts on drilling or using overflow box
I used an overflow box and had issues with it, risk for losing siphon. If you know how to drill that’s the better route, I didn’t feel comfortable drilling so I bought a reef ready aquarium and never had any issues with it.

As for drilling or HOB it really is your preference... easy/fast- HOB, more work but to your liking-draining tank plumbing and a overflow that you can do to your preference/liking .

Hmm so if I take my fish out and go fallow I’ll probably just take out my inverts drain the water down and drill.

I’ve seen some videos and read articles on drilling. Still it terrifies me to try....haha!

From someone who has done both HOB and drilled, please take this piece of advice...GO DRILLED! I'm so glad I did and will never look back ;)

You won't want the inverts with the fish just fyi. They won't tolerate the treatments the fish need.

Yeah I have a 13g nano up and running now but didn’t think all my fish would get along in there. I’m kind of concerned that my watchman goby won’t pair back up with the pistol

This is my second outbreak and am tired of it.

If this is the second outbreak, it might be helpful to hear details of the first one. (It's possible this is still the same outbreak, but a relapse due to stress.)

How has the tank been overall since the last outbreak? Anything noteworthy?

Have you been adding the fish 1-2 at a time or have they been added pretty fast/in larger groups?

Firstly! If you are planning to drill, Where are you planning to drill the tank back or bottom? If bottom just be sure it’s NOT tempered glass. Drilling seems scary but it not that bad. Just get your correct measurements, lay them out at your desired location and be sure the bulkheads will fit inside the overflow. Get the right size diamond hole saw, plumbers putty, water. Make a water trough with the putty, add water.Start slowly at an angle and as you start feeling a groove bring drill straight and just take it slowly
