LFS was out of ati actinic bulbs. I got a UVL super actinic. Are there any difference between the ati and uvl actinic?

Get the ATI blue plus. Not many T5 users use the 'actinic' bulb. The blue plus gives the 'blue' color but gives an actual color/spectrum for growth.

I've got 2 blue + and 1 coral + and uvl super actinic.

It's probably pretty cool lookin.

I enjoy it. Still don't know what actinic is better though the ati or uvl. I almost feel the uvl gives the corals a better pop than the ati did. Which maybe why reefer steer away from ati true actinic bulb.

Those charts only show color intensity relative to the other colors in the bulb. The highest peak defines "100%".

You can't tell which is brighter. :)

No man. Its about fashion and sheeple.

It probably looks just like my SBreeflight led at night, right this second. My current orbit is almost the exact same color too. And you have the rest of the spectrum, covered to your good.

lol I feel like an idiot. Basically they are the same brightness then?

it doesnt produce any real par anyways and is basically their for aestetics, so whichever one you like the look of better wins. Both the same wattage so brightness has to do with color spectrum and what "looks brighter"

I wish I knew the right terms to explain this, but I will say the charts are generalized so you can compare colors. The brightest color on each chart is designated as 100% and the rest of the chart shows the other colors in the light as a relative percentage.

But as a result, you don't know anything about total brightness like lux, PAR or even lumens.

But makers more often publish at least one of those three parameters...usually lumens...and less often publish spectrum graph. So if you have a graph, there's a good change the brightness info is available out there too.

Oddly in the reef lighting segment, all they give you is watts and (usually) a spectrum graph.

For what it's worth, a little googling revealed an amateur PAR test comparing the two and ATI pulled a 140+ while the Super Actinic pulled a 200+.

The UVL apparently pulls almost 150% of the ATI bulb's PAR.
