I need new heaters and I'm thinking Finnex titanium.

I have a pair of Aqueon 300 watt heaters. One has failed. I want to replace them with a
Finnex 800 watt titanium.

And for 75g and 83g tank I have the titanium stand alone heater tube with a separate controller / probe. I use the finnex external controller but there are other good brand controllers Also

I now run a brs 300 on my 170 with an aqualogic controller.
Im happy with it so far and it looks and feals very like a quality unit. Plus a 3 year warranty.
I ran a finnex on an old nano with good results.

Without the in-line controller? Well they're on a inkbird connected to a apex outlet. It's triple redundant now. I'm not dead set on any particular model at the moment. The ones I have now have that plastic guard on them and I want to mount them better and don't want to pry that junk off and risk damage and it may just be time to replace anyway out of precaution? I will say I'm in no rush; it's way down on my list atm.

The plastic guards are held on with 2-3 built in snap clips. Tiny screwdriver can take it off no damage

I have a controller that I built. So I would get one without the in line controller.

I like the idea of redundancy, but I certainly don't need (2) 800 watt heaters in
145 gallons.

I'll probably just go with one 800 watt.

Have had most brands including Finnex (which were fine), Inkbird etc. By far the most reliable and consistent, especially if you are running 2 heaters, has been Helio. 2, 300 watt units, on a 180 gal. keep the temp withing .1 degrees at all times.

I'm liking the Helio, but that is very expensive.

300 watts maintains the temp, and is always on. But to get the temperature to come up, I need two.

But it is a critical component that you don't want to go cheap on for tank peace of mind. Mine have been perfect 3 years now. The elements are small and easy to sump fit.

You need roughly 800w to heat the tank.
2x500 would be ok. When they come on you get 1000w

If one died you would have 500w which could sustain but run a lot. Would only need that for a couple days while you wait for a replacement. But honestly the independent finnex tubes are solid with an external controller. I have one running from 2015 and another from 2017

When the listing says "Heating Element Only". Does that mean it is the heater without the controller?

Do the Finnex heaters require a Finnex controller or can I plug them in to my existing controller?

Element only is just the heater. It has a normal 3 prong outlet cord and can be plugged into any temperature controller
