Are some zoa just small as heck? My reefing brother gave me a couple little shop of horrors and they are sooooo tiny. This is such a pretty zoa it’s rough to see and get pictures. Any way to get these guys bigger? Not so much growth cause that will come but just getting the polyp larger. Had to move it up front cause my older eyes are struggling. By far my favorite zoa so far.

This is a reason I've moved away from smaller zoas and stick with bigger varieties. The smaller ones sometimes stay too small.

Everybody blames too much light for small zoas and yeah, blasting them with light can keep them compressed.

Stable nitrate and phosphate and not letting them get too low (or too high and then dip in the case of nitrate) is the biggest contributor to getting smaller zoas to inflate and do their best. Iodine dosing also helps, but phosphate and nitrate being stable helps more. You've probably noticed small zoas look their best in big SPS tanks and grow largest which seems contradictory. The reason being those big SPS tanks usually have stable nutrients.

Thanks for that, definitely weird when the other zoa I have are “normal” size. Ironic that the one I most want to see is the hardest to see. I moved it more to the front so hopefully it won’t get as blasted with light and I can see it way better. I have some decent SPS colony’s for my smaller tank and n’s and p’s and super stable and not quite zero but low all the time. Hopefully I’ll get these guys spreading over the plug in no time. Brightwell XC and roids should do the job. Hopefully they start to fill in

Maybe it will get bigger with time. I have some rastas that were really small like that. After about three months, they started to fill out a bit. Then new polyps started to show up. It's not just the size that counts.
