So, long story short, my BTA split a few months ago, both are doing great. This is my Anemone tank now, but I have 2 new ones on the way, and I want to get rid of one so I can get a new one. Don’t want to spend the cash on the crazy lineage etc, but I want one that isn’t identical to what I have..... either way, I need room for a new one, in addition go the 2 that are on the way (Mini-Maxi) so I told a guy he could have one...... no problem, but now the guy will be here Monday to pick it up, and I tried quickly to get it off the rock it is “in” and it’s not so easy.

I don’t want go remove the rock from the tank and disrupt both Nems, and the rock has large holes that go all the way through, (which the foot is in) so I couldn’t get a powerhead to persuade it, and I can’t really reach the foot with an ice-cube etc.

Turkey baster with ice-cold water did nothing

Thoughts? It is the one on the left that I’d prefer to give the guy. Although the one on the right seems more accessible

I know you don't want to remove the rock, but the quickest way is to take it out of the tank and carefully chisel away the rock to get to the foot so you can remove it without harming the anemone. As an anemone keeper who moves around anemones a lot, I quickly got used to the rocks becoming "disposable" because I break them apart so often. I don't want to hang baskets in my tank because I want the tank to look like a display, and not a grow-out system.

It’s the only rock in the tank, but I agree about the desire to not have baskets/frag racks etc

The foot is inside a hole. Not sure I can chisel the rock near the foot even if I take the rock out. Maybe I will take the rock out and drop it in a tote with water the nem won’t like.

Unfortunately everything on the rock will likely let go, but I gotta get him off

There are probably 3 holes in the rock, the size of a sand-dollar, and his foot is probably 6-8 inches from the outside of the rock that you can see

Actually both Nems in the picture have their feet going through the same hole

One way to urge the anemone to move (and all the other anemones as well) is to do a whole tank blackout for a couple days. People do this all the time to control some types of nuisance algae - it also causes the bubble tips to shoot around.

Just put the power head right in front of it when it's closed up in the hole it will move out the back of the hole.

Best of luck might take little bit but he will move and once you see that foot all puffed up u can grab him right up what I do all the time

I've had luck hanging them upside down for a while, eventually they let go. With that said, I've never had one with such a deep hole to plant it's foot into.

This is how I get them off the rocks. Works perfectly.

SURE METHOD FOR DEEP ROCK IMBEDDING. . . . . .
Aim a powerhead at it. It will become unhappy and move. A turkey baster may work too, but requires a lot of pumping.

if all else fails:

Sometimes a long piece of pvc placed over him will encourage him to climb out.
