Part of me wants to give up at this point.
A week ago I had a pretty successful Sumpless 40 breeder Acro dominated tank.
I've been getting the urge to upgrade, but I've been mostly ignoring it because I didn't wanna break the tank down and I didn't want to spend the money.
well long story short I ended up doing it anyways.
I bought two hydra 32s to replace my black box light (first problem). I bought a reef octopus HOB 1000. Second problem. And I bought a 65 gallon tall tank. (All problems)

well when I switched the lights, I guess the par was much lower and my alk skrocketed and I lost about 6 acros. Soon after switching tanks my kole tang broke out in ich or velvet. (He was taken to my buddies store for quarantine) when I got home from the store I realized the clowns are also infected.

then I woke up this morning to find a bacterial bloom and the skimmer overflowing all over my floor. (Presumably from my nopox dose not being adjusted for losing the tang or the tank transfer)

my tank was beautiful last week now it's falling apart on all fronts. I don't know what to do

Keep your head up and don’t give up. We’ve all been there where it gets really frustrating and wanna throw in the towel. This community couldn’t be any better to help you through your situation and we are proud of that!

Problem is I don't even know where to start or what to do.

Stop the skimmer from overflowing.
Take care of the fish.
Reduce the alk with water changes.
Water changes might also help with the bacterial bloom.
Get back on the road to a nice acro tank.

Upgrading, downsizing, changing tanks is never an easy thing and is seldom a completely smooth transition. If you love this hobby (like I think you do), consider this all part of learning, and start changing the things you can to get your tank back where you want it to be.

All your old equipment was dialed into your old tank. Now you have new equipment you have to break in, get used to. You might need to borrow a par meter for the led lights (the lighting could be too low given your new taller tank, or too high, because LEDs can be deceptively powerful when tuned to the eye). You should stop dosing nopox for now, until the bloom goes away. Keep your skimmer running during the bloom. Treat your fish as needed for parasites. Start over with corals.

You got this.

I need to set up a quarantine tank and go fallow for 8 weeks. That's the first step. I live in an apartment and I'm out of space. I have lots of animals and a 2 year old with another kid in the way. I'm waiting to hear back from my buddy about him maybe quarantining the fish for me. I literally almost burned my house down this morning from the skimmer overflowing. Not to mention I have no idea what going fishless will do to my tank for 8 weeks.

Stop dosing nopox. Stop the skimmer from overflowing, or pull it off line. Stop dosing alk and ca until your levels come down to your preferred settings. If alk is super high do some water changes. Test alk daily. It will take your acros a couple days to a couple weeks to start using alk again. The fish need a qt for sure. Sorry this happened.

Transferring all rock and livestock to a new bigger tank should not have caused ich unless it was already present in the old system, unless you added something new that was wet. I would definitely expect the sps to shut down for a few days or weeks till they adjusted to the new lights, flow, and water Parameters. I’ll say it again, test alk daily and keep a log. Also a new skimmer will go nuts till it breaks in.

Would you guys saying going fallow is the only solution here ? The tang is in a hospital tank at a store, but now my clowns are showing signs.
I do not know where the ich came from. I swapped out my entire sand bed during the transfer so maybe there was an ammonia spike. Other than that, I have added nothing new.

It is not the only solution, but it is a good one. You can decide to “manage” ich as opposed to eradicate it. But it may limit the fish that you can have, or can flare when there is stress introduced to the system. Adding a UV can help manage parasites. Not a simple topic.

Did you just move everything to the new tank?

Yes. And added 25 gallons of new water. Removed all old sand added all new sand. Everyone has ick now. Every day another Acro dies and every day another fish has ick. I just tested my water for the first time and everything is actually legit. But the Whole tank is dying

I spent soooo much money on this tank. Only bought fish that went through quarantine. Started buying high end acros like it was going out of style, recently upgraded the lighting, the skimmers, even organized my dosers and made new containers. and it was working. I'm honestly hoping I come home tomorrow to an entirely dead tank so I can just start over. I can't even look at it right now.

I have a white female molly who is actually one of my favorite fish. She has ich. My clownfish have ich. My yellow watchman goby is missing.

Last week my lawnmower blenny got sucked into an aquaclear. I was home and caught it in time. I pulled him out. He usually gets bullied by the kole tang but just swims away. I think the Kole tang ripped his tail off. He just started healing up and eating again. Now he has ich

I think it was the move's disturbance of the system, but I have nothing to back that up.

This is why numbers are to be taken with a grain of salt. They can be helpful ... but.

At this point I am not sure what to suggest that you do. Maybe if you can get your hands on some good cured live rock, that might help, but I think now things are too far out to pull back.

Sorry I couldn't provide any better advice than that :(

Appreciate it. I too believe the tank swap triggered this. Honestly I hope the entire tank dies overnight so I can just start over.

One thing is the tank is probably re-cycling. Maybe some increased flow, or more bacteria.

Blehhh ... still at a loss as to how to help :(

Last time I played with bacteria something bad happened, think it was a bacterial bloom. I just tested everything. Numbers are actually alright. Same as before the tank swap. I just cranked up the flow. I'm waiting on polyp lab medic to come in the mail.

All the remaining fish are eating like nothing happened.

Tank before the upgrade and crash.
