I'm new to dosing and recently bought ATI pro 2 part. I took a readings using salifert tests of 7.3dkh alk and 385 calcium.

Next I went to the ati online calculator
https://www.atinorthamerica.com/water-care/essentials-pro-dosing/
I went to the dose adjustment part and entered my volume of 700 litres, ticked the undiluted option, added 0 as my current dose amount and specified I wanted to increase alk by 0.5

I got a 24.5ml result. So I dosed 25ml of #1 mixed in a pot of tank water first, then the same of #2 1 hour later. I waited overnight and my alk has jumped up by 2.4dkh to 9.7 and calcium has raised by 35ppm to 420.

What did I do wrong? Why did it jump up so much :S

Doing all that math gives me a headache. I am very good at math but not with dosing. I dose manually and have been for 5 years now. Sorry I can't help you. I only have a 75 gallon so water changes covers most of my needs.

You will be ok. I’m a three year ati user. Let it fall naturally to your selected level. Then start dosing slowly, maybe 8 mil. Dose a couple times per day until you find the sweet spot. I highly recommend a dosing pump. I am currently using the ati pump. Also I find salifert alk test reliable compared to ati water test. you Will need to test alk daily for a while and make adjustments. Also I would dilute 50/50 for a better control of dosing.

First time I've seen or used ATI's calculator....and I don't like it because I'm use to also inputting start and ending levels.....so my response needs to be taken with a grain of salt. My interpretation is that they initially assume some baseline of alk/calc....now using the left side of the calculator (Starting Dosing), and clicking what you suggested as well as "Few corals/new aquarium", I got a dose of 7.4 mls per day.

I think what they want you to do is start with that dose and see what it does to your levels. Once you see where you're at, now use the right side.

That's my guess.....Again, I'm not familiar with this calculator and hope a member who is will reply

Thanks. Yes I have a dosing pump on order. I planned on going slow which is why I calculated for a 0.5dkh increase. Either their calculator is wrong or I used it incorrectly... who knows.

Once the levels drop, I will start with 5ml per day and will see how i get on with that.

Good size water change and add High grade carbon for purposes of oxygen and water clarity
