I used the wrong silicone when making my new sump. Killed off mostly everything in my tank. my question is if i drain everything and put my rock in water with heat and power heads will the poison from the silicone still be in the rock when i use for my new set up?

Can you give more details? What silicon did you actually use?

not sure the brand but I know it was type2. Got some bad info and didn't follow up on it! Last time that happens!

It must have been GE Silicone II. If I remember correctly it has the mildew repellant which bleaches you tank. GE Silicone I is what you wanted.

I would drain everything and let it dry, rinse it and start over running a bunch of carbon. What do you have to lose at this point?

Do you think my rock would absorb that bleach? should i let the rock dry out too? At least this gives me a chance to re aquascape

I would think the rock would absorb the bleach and would be leery in adding it back...I wouldn't add it, not worth the risk IMHO...but it is your call.

I always use the aquarium sealant you can get from your lfs. It might be expensive, but it wouldn't hurt your aquarium in anyway. So sorry about your tank

Not worth the aggravation the chance of starting over then starting over agian ,would really stink boil rocks in water then let it dry out for a few weeks then try and reseed it good luck

re-curing rock is an idea, but a nazzman suggest, boil it thorough and then let it dry, then put in brute can and let it cure fo 4-6 wks..

boiling scares the **** out of me. heard a few cases of people poisoning their entire family!

How does that happen?

Just order some dry rock from BRS and put this experience behind you. The $100 is worth the piece of mind and would pay for itself if you lost any more corals due to reusing your current rock.
