I feel DE will do more that a UV with ick as it can clear the free swimming phase for sure in a system. The problem is with larger systems there isn’t a good off the shelf answer besides a pool filter.

The lady feeding, will not be capable of the filter change process needed with DE. I agree, this option seems more thorough.

Following your recommendations, I found a 40 watt Pentair uv sterilizer from DFS...50% off! ;Joyful
I have it temporarily plumbed into sump, and will install it permanently when I return.
Also started supplementing everyone’s diet with live clams.
So far so good.

I have yet to catch all the fish (12)...because I need to remove 1/3 of the live rock and set up an acrylic wall in order to corral them. in order to catch them. Ugh. My tank is deep and packed to the brim with rock/coral.
Then I have to commit to 76 days with a fallow tank (keeping corals happy without fish waste) and keeping all the fish alive for 76 days in temporary housing (some dragonets). It is an ugly and long process, but it will happen.

Long story short, I will definitely keep the uv going after qt. I like the idea of it.

Did you find a good price on a uv? What size are you looking for? How big is your tank? Assuming you have ich?

I'm currently going through a treatment of prazi but have a 18 w uv hooked up. It pulls Water off the return line and returns it to the 1st chamber of my sump. My fish are all doing good for now. I feel that if I have to go fallow for 76 days i may just give up on the tank. I'm trying the managing method and feeding all fresh food.
