I switched salt…

Can’t definitively correlate the two but ever since tank has been very very angry. Lost a **** ton of acros…like 12. Might be that, might not…

Knowing it’s most likely not necessarily the salt itself but the change that caused trouble, I’m interested in some thoughts on wether I should go back to the original salt to see if things improve or not take that “instability” risk and plug along.

The salt I switched to matched the better the parameters the tank had been stabilizing at. A little higher Alk basicallly.
Everything else was pretty darn equivalent.

To a degree, yes. With 10 percent water changes maybe 75 percent new salt supplemented by old salt over maybe a month.

just happened to me, I'm mid recovery from that

alk changes

you needed to do the light ramping trick. it's your strong lighting killing them

when doing any tank insult like that, drop light power bigtime and slowly come back up while feeding well. not burning them with intense lighting arrived at with another different mix is a big deal in stopping change-caused losses. re ramp as if lights are new, take ten days or more and don't wind up as bright as they are now for a long time. there's still time to save some maybe, the tissues can overgrow the white surfaces if lucky/in time with the rescue.

Agreed.
Original salt was like 7-8, new was like 8-9.

I run kalk so tank was running higher anyway.

So what y’all think? Switch back or stay put?

I’d leave it if the new salt is closer to the prams you want. Damage is done.

This is why I don’t change salts or water. Only times I have had something unexplainably wonky happen it was WC related.

I gotta say, I hear water change water change and I’d have to agree with the philosophy…however…my corals really don’t seem to like them much.
I’ve reduced to 10 percent every two weeks and may increase that to monthly shortly.

I doubt any of the name brand salts are your issue. Possibly yes, but IMM, unlikely.

Pick the salt and never change.
