I think Anenome is not going to make it Help!

My Anenome has been slowly declining and I have no idea why. Probably a batch of water was bad. I do not know, however, I am posting tis progression. I even flipped over the rock as someone suggessted. That seemed to make it worse. Are there any suggestions? Should I flip the rok back over. It is still moving its tentacles a little.

Ok, so here is my recommendation. Get him out and into a hospital tank as soon as you can. Dose him with 500mg of Cipro per 10g of water. Remove all flow except that which you need for a return. Do a 10-20% water change every night and add 250mgof Cipro for 9 days. Keep lights dim, at best, for the first week and slowlyramp up to no more than 20% IF it starts looking better. If it’s opening and full, move it into a cup or mug with some sand in it to see if it will stick its foot. If it looks good for a few days after this regimen, you can move him back to your display. During the medical regimen, don’t feed at all.

Stores are closed and do not have an hospital tank. Should I flip the rock back over and get him out of the light?

Do you have Cipro? I would get a small tank and be prepared next time. Sometimes we have to learn how to treat them. I’ve learned the hard way.

If you have Cipro, you can crush some and disperse a little into the water near it. I would get it out of the light for now. If you don’t have Cipro, order some ASAP for the next time. Keep it stocked. It’s one of those things I keep on hand because I have anemones.

If it’s not completely mushed by tomorrow, you can still work toward saving it.

If you have a Walmart close, they probably would have what you need. Put the anemone, on its rock to help seed it, in a small tank with some fresh salt water. The recommendation for the nightly water change is due to potential ammonia build up since the tank is being quickly set.

I’d rather see you with a cheap 10g tank from Walmart with a small return flow so that you can get the full dose in the tank.

Thank you! I do not understand how something so healthy can all of a suddent just shrink! I was so proud of it.

It’s not beyond saving if you can act quickly. You’ll be more proud of it still if you save it -probably more so. You don’t need a big tank.

Hey, I’ve been there. It’s ok. It’s a learning process. I got a beauty LTA and it got into a power head. It was about the size of a big salad plate and gorgeous. It got stung on the foot by a close BTA and it took off. It got into the power head and shredded. After I destroyed the power head cover to get it out, it was about the size of a golf ball and looked awful. I treated it as I suggested. It is now beautiful and big and loving life. It’s about the size of a dinner plate. I have prettier but I love this one most because of all it’s been through.

If it dies, be prepared for the next one. This is required stuff imo if you keep anemones. .

Good reason to get prepared. I have had anemones get sick without others near it ever being effected.

Well you should probably have some Metroplex and other meds on hand too. Fluconazole is kind of a trendy attack on some algae but it is an anti fungal. Metronidazole is an anti bacterial the same as Cipro but it’s a different type. I don’t know much more. Just get what you can and do what you can as quickly as you can.

Do some research here for hospital tanks and there are some nice lists in the fish forum that talks about meds to keep on hand. But @Amoo has a nice write up that is at the top of this subsection that talks about treating anemones.

Honestly, just don’t give up. If it dies, it’s ok. Don’t beat yourself up. Just learn from it.
