the tank is almost 2 months old. The rock was cured for around 3 months before added to the tank.
Nitrates are between 5-10
Phosphate is still zero I can’t seem to get a reeding. Maybe I setup my fuge to early but I honestly wasn’t expecting the chaeto to even live. I’m using a kessil h160 at half intensity, a ball of chaeto around basketball size. It’s not growing but it’s very green and looks good.
I think this is dinoflaggets. The tangs eat it and trochus snails eat it also. I can scrub it off the rocks with very little effort but it comes back within 24 hours. It’s looked this way for around a month now.

its kind of green but more of a clearish/tannish color and there is no bubbles on it

It’s hard to tell for sure, but I don’t think you have dinos. I would siphon it out. If your tangs and snails eat it as well, you should be good to go.

ive scrubbed it off and syphoned it out a couple times but it comes right back...ive been playing it off as new tank syndrome but im tired of looking at it and would like to get it under control sooner than later if i an do something about it. im thinking about dosing some phosphate and see what happends.

It’s gonna keep coming back for a long time. You can try dosing phosphates, but that will likely make the “problem” worse. IMO you just have the new tank uglies. If I were you, I’d get some more snails, do weekly 10% water changes, suck the algae out when I can’t stand it any more, and enjoy the journey.

I agree. Those do not look like dinos to me.

my last tank never had this kinda algae before in its early stages so its new to me.....oh well, at least its not dinos
its a RSR 625 with about 20-30 nessarius snails, 20ish cerriths, 5 bumble bee and probably 30 trochus snails. herbivore fish are 3 tangs and a 2 spot bleny. the trochus snails are more interested in the glass but still work on the rocks. i guess ill load up on some turbos, i just hate flipping em back over all the time which is why i dont have any

i also plan on 2 more tangs. a powder blue and purple tang but since they are such jerks im gonna add them last.

We are dealing with the same thing. I also have not ID’ed it but if you want to see what it looks like when it grows out you can see it on my thread here:

The most recent post shows the before pics, where whatever the growth is looks just like yours, and the original post shows what it looks like when it grows out. When it gets long, the cleanup crew can’t eat it, so today I’m gonna do an aggressive pulling/trimming/scrubbing and try to keep it in check until I increase the size of my cleanup crew. I also noticed that the lower phosphates get, the less it grows.
