I think I made a huge mistake...

Okay, so after not reading the directions for the Neptune Dos well enough (I take 100% full blame for this) I crossed the line for the line that's supposed to remove water and ended up removing water from my bathroom sink's drain and adding that to my sump. I live in Georgia, so I don't know how clean or dirty this water is, but I do know that it isn't 0 TDS. This is a fairly new tank, so I'm not sure exactly what this means. My tank is about 2 months old with four lps frags and 2 clowns. Everything seems okay. I did a test the day after and everything seemed normal.

What do I need to rtes for and look out for? I'm assuming a 50% water change is idea?

Add carbon, do water changes. Depending on the size of the tank and the amount of water added from the drain it may not be an issue. Good luck!

This is a 120g tank with about 25 gallons in the sump and at least a gallon in the plumbing.

Keeping calm and not overreacting is most important as always with reef tanks.


As long as you don’t notice any negative changes..... act as you would have done without your mistake

Use of Activated carbon and skimming to mitigate risks coming from the not purified water

Keep prepared for waterchanges in case you see signs of Intoxikation (50% or more)
- with RODI
- with the salinity that also your tank has

In case you notice brown spots on your Sand, i would use Silicate absorbers (basically the same as phosphate Absorbers)

What they said ^. Put something in there for chlorine. You’ll be good I think. 125 gallons is fairly forgiving.

I probably pumped 6 gallons in, if that. I just don't see how the line is full of water because the drain is empty half the time, and the 1/4" tube is inserted above the trap, so I'm assuming it's probably a lot less than 6 gallons, but it's hard for me to say. Would treating for chlorine be better than a water change?
