Hey everyone, I'm looking at investing in an RODI system, and I came across a used one online and the owner is just wanting to move it. It looks old for sure, but it is the BRS 5 stage plus and comes with a 55 gallon barrel with float switch for super cheap. My question is, even if there are some parts that need attention (and I'm sure I'll have to invest in filters) isn't it worth the risk?

Hmmm... you look like you need a new membrane as the one is cracked... that leads me to believe that the other housing might crack as well.. tbh, there might be a lot of problems that happen with RO/DI systems, there is usually at all times 60-75 pounds of pressure in an RO/DI at all times to run them effectively. And if you leave it unattended you want to know peace at mind that it wont burst and flood everywhere. You may or may not be taking a risk. Thats just based off of the picture

That would depend largely on how much they are asking and if you can use the barrel. I would replace all of the filters and the membrane regardless of how new they say they are.

I guess its worth $40 but I question other than membrane, how many surprises you will run into to have it fully functional at what total investment.
By me I can barrels free.

That looks pretty beat up to me. Things hanging off, disconnected and almost looks like the cartridges are full of algae. For me the question would be is it worth a potential flood risk if I were to miss something

Well, I'll take a road trip and have a good lunch, see a friend, and maybe find a good coral store there

I just zoomed in and I believe those are spider webs not cracks ( could be wrong ) for 40$ I would take a shot but thats just me.

is the top unit cracked or is it just the way the paper tag or whatever it is sits on it.
Looks like it's been sitting for quite some time though,

Thanks for all of the info/advice everyone! Actually went to a LFS today and picked up a nem for my clownfish and lo and behold there was the same model there and the shop owner sold it to me for $40! So score for me!!!
