I think my anemone is dying

Tank looks a bit on the newer side.
All nems should be provided reef type lighting and they will find their spot.
Parameters must be consistently on point, they hate swings.
If he’s stuck, he’s fine, just leave him alone.

Maybe the person u bought it from injured the root when was removing coral. Give it a week . They r hardy coral.

Canister requires frequent cleanings to prevent trapped food and wastes from adding to the nitrate level.
Once matured, Rock surfaces, especially those that provide a ton of surface area are the best filters of all.
I use canister simply to deploy different media’s like carbon and gfo only.

A sump is not mandatory but is nice for placing equipment. The other great benefit is that they allow for “bigger water” which is much easier to keep stable. You can place more rock in a simp if you wish to add “surface area” for beneficial bacteria to grow.

5 gallon is so small which every month you can slowly do 1 gallon water change or have 10 gallon sump . To be honest the bigger sump u have the less water. Change u will need bc u adding more water volume to ur tank

I have a small 3.5 gallon tank I can turn into a sump
I need to know if I need 2 pumps for a sump

Usually “out” is gravity fed and “in” is by submersible pump, so one for normal applications.
Tanks with sumps require an opening drilled in the glass for the return. Not sure how that might turn out on a 5G, but I guess that’s possible.

5g is too small for a nem 20g mature and stable is best.
