So I have decided to collect mushrooms and use them to cover my rock work. However, I have never had luck getting mushrooms to grow rapidly. More importantly I often see tanks with mushrooms and the polyps are huge! Mine usually keep nice color and stay alive, but the polyps are small. What’s the secret here?

Nutrients? I feed pretty heavily and have a pretty well stocked tank, but I do run a big skimmer and filter socks changed weekly. Tank is also mostly barebottom.
Flow? This could be a key factor, typically run medium flow, but nothing extreme.
Lighting? Maybe so... I’m running 3 Red Sea 90 LEDs on my 180. They are a good 18” off the water.
Any tips?
My tank pics and a couple shrooms for reference...

my advice awesome tank dont change anything just get some more mushrooms ,

Time. Some mushrooms grow big quickly, some take a very long time. I have 2 3-yearold mushrooms that are 5" now. I also have a Jersey Bounce that hasn't grown on me at all.

It depends on species, how often you feed, light, flow, and sometimes just the individual shroom.
