I have a nano build that is doing good but is too small for fish. Have some crabs and one soft coral. I'm trying to teach my boys about ecosystems and the amount of life a reef can support.... Well I'm trying to teach them about all the creepy crawlies but I can't find any! My LFSs have super clean rock that at best MIGHT have some copapods... Can anyone help us with this problem? My kids are losing interest fast

I know I need good cultured/"premium" live rock. Does anyone recommend a place that would ship only like 5lbs without killing me on shipping? Honestly I only need a couple pounds... Wonder if it would be more cost effective to find someone to mail me some from their sump or something. Or maybe someone lives around Kansas City could meet up someplace... Craigslist is kinda scary lol

  • Be careful what I ask for.... I know that's right! I got aptasia anemones explode in my tank once had to get nudibrachs to take care of it and another time I had spaghetti worms eat every zoa in my tank in three nights had to set the rock out in the sun for a week... But those are the kinda things that I'm looking for. This is a teaching tool for my five son's. I can buy them books and show them films but it isn't he same as flipping on the red lights and see the tank change personalities! And what better way to teach the delicate balance of the reefs than to throw it outta whack and then introduce one more thing to fix it. That is really the only goal from this set up. Not looking for fish or a show tank or anything. I know its not normal but its what we are after right now.... When I set the 75 back up then it will be about flashy stuff.

Hey Shamas, there's a thread we started that you may be interested in.sounds like it's right down the same alley. That's what I'm doing with my son, using a small jug building a reef in it so we can study how life competes for space and survival in such a small eco system. http://www.thereeftank.com/forums/f6/reef-n-a-jug-279825.html
We all using aprox. (1) gallon containers, and with my approach running it a simple as I can get away with. Always room for another participant. All the best, Hack
