Hi everyone,

I have the Aqueon ProFlex Sump model 2. Picture is attached. I want to remove the filter socks as I honest suck at changing them out on time so probably doing more harm than good. What would you suggest on how i do this when this sump and not have the water so loud when coming down from display.

I don’t think i have any room in my sump to use that, the skimmer is in the middle chamber and the return pump in the last chamber, the 1st chamber has the built in section for the socks.

Depending on the water level in that first chamber and the height of the return line you might be able to put a piece of plastic on an angle between the two. This will definitely cut down on the noise. I've done the same thing in my HOB overflow and couldn't be happier. GL.

Sorry didn't mean to give a suggestion you'd thought of .one time long ago I had a noisy sump n drilled a plastic boxes lid w many holes n laid it n at an angle helped w biological system n sounded like a Brook very relaxing and efficient n no cost also adjustable just needed imagination hope this is helpful.R

I would just straight up remove the socks, and using a dremel, cut out the sock holders. Also cut out the tube the overflow flows into(looks to be part of the sock holder piece).

No, I think they would just turn into bio media and not trap anything. You might have to clean them once a month or so. The trick is to guide the flow of water into the bottom and catch the splashing.

I have the same sump and don't think it's very loud.

The sock shouldn't really affect the sound, as the water goes into the clear tube first and then back out.

You can also raise the level of that first chamber if you think that's the cause. Just pull the section up and hold it for a few second until its pressed against the second chamber.

I want to remove the socks all together and not use them, i have skimmer in the middle compartment and return in the 3rd. I wanted to stop using filter socks because I always forget to change them or don't have time for some reason and sometimes in there for a couple weeks before I get to it. So I was looking for a solution to reduce the noise of the water coming back up from the return pipe there and coming through the 2 ;4 inch holes and hitting the water.

make sense?

I just went over to my sump and I have vastly different noise sources. Even with my head in the stand, the overflow above was the loudest noise source.

How is your overflow plumbed into the sump? Mine is hard piped with 2 elbows, with the pipe about halfway down the clear cylinder.

From there the water only drops about 1" through the socks into the first chamber.

I am looking to reduce noise when I take out socks. When socks are in. It is almost silent.
