I've had my tank for 10+ years. It was FOWLR for the first 7 or so. I first added hairy mushrooms, once they were self-propagating, I tried more advanced species like a tree leather, (which didn't like my dirty husbandry). I then tried pulsing Xenia and they too began self-propagating. Depending on your water quality these two species can overrun your tank though. Now that I keep my nitrates in the under 10 ppm range the Xenia and mushrooms have slowed their growth and I've been able to successfully keep a purple sea whip and red gorgonian for a couple of months now. I recently added a hammer and torch coral to the tank and they too are seemingly happy.
