I Was Wrong

Someone in this thread has a vested interest in the public to keep polluting or they will be out a job. Makes total sense that they are denying the effects of climate change.
I work on sites that operated from the 1950's to about the 1980's. They will not go away before I retire. No need for anymore on my behalf...

So was it a crocodile or a gator? (guessing if it was the former it was a pet release at some point in the past?)

The reality is that most of Florida is a swamp, and gators pretty much go with the territory (not really any different than the coyotes that snag the occasional small dog up here).
Oh, we have the coyotes too & the bobcats & the wild boars, etc

Its coming to an end and depressing. We arrived at Port of Miami this morning on Carnival Conquest and flying back tommorow. I have to sort pics as some were good, a few great and some fuzzy as I am still getting familiar with a new camera. Key west - my daughter checked camera and we do have video showing large coral structures which I will post via you tube

pH is logarithmic, not exponential.
My bad - its right - pH is logarithmic which is the inverse to exponential - It was 2 o´clock in the morning here when I wrote that

280 is 0.028% of a million
420 is 0.042% of a million
the difference is 140 ppm
which is 0.014% of a million

Let's check that: 0.042% - 0.028% = 0.014%

I mean, I might be wrong, and I would accept it if I were, but I think the math checks out.
With that way of using math - I understand completely the situation in the US Its right that 280 ppm CO2 in the air (volumetric) is 0.028 % expressed as % (% = parts per hundred) 420 ppm expressed as % is 0.042 %. But still - if it raise from 0.028 % to 0.042% - its a rise with 50%. Let us take an example 1,000,000 L of air with the concentration of 280 ppm (0.028 %) contain 280 L CO2. 1,000,000 L of air with CO2 concentration of 420 ppm (0.042 %) contain 420 L of CO2. It is a rise of 140 L . This is according to 5:th grade mathematics a rise with 50%! If you prefer gallons - its the same. 1.000,000 G with 280 ppm (0.028 %) give 280 G CO2, 420 ppm (0,042 %) -> 420 G - a rise with 140 G or with 50%

Gas concentrations is normally expressed in a volumetric way (per volume)

Sincerely Lasse

Let us put it in another way that you probably understand better

Let us say you have an income of $1,000,000 - your tax is 28 % -> $280000 The government rise it to 42 % -> $420000 - have you get a tax rise with 50% or14% ???.

The "Just Stop Oil" morons, for starters.
I´, so old that I have been out for the debate about acid rain, methylmercury, environmental issue in general, DDT, other organochlorines, led content in the fuel, amfetamin based weight loss pills, the catalytic converter, safety belts, tobacco contra cancer and morphine based pain killers. I wonder which people are seen as morons today? The ones that was against or the ones that defend big businesses of that time.

Sincerely Lasse

So true, they are the same lot who argued with Copernicus. I can hear them now. "This idea that the sun is the center of the solar system is just big science or a WAG"

At least the Bobcats are native. Its the armadillos that get me. Why?
Bobcats “were” native, you can thank the pythons for that
…. Coyotes are not, you can thank the removal of red wolves for that
… Armadillos are native since by definition they are supposedly just late comers of the “Great Faunal Interchange”, which is another great study subject

yup, they haven’t totally thought this through: dismantle a multi trillion dollar industry, along with the jobs and infrastructure that such decision will destroy, and we will be burning twigs and newspaper instead to stay alive…
…don’t get me wrong; someday we have to quit running on liquid dead dinosaurs to power our economy, I just don’t believe destroying the entire fossil energy industry is the smart move…
I’d rather they use oil/ gas/ coal to power electric plants so all the “dirt/co2” is focused in one place for easier cleanup (as opposed to trying to cleanup 200mil autos)…
I get that it isn’t cost effective, the math doesn’t make sense (yet) but that doesn’t exactly mean we kill a zillion jobs in a blink, which IMO has a greater negative cost … (and yes, agreed “clean coal” is a oxymoron, for now);

I don't think anyone is really saying 'just stop oil' is what we need to do. If you turn that off today, millions of people will die. Can't go from plastics to no plastics that quickly for example.

But eventually it has to be turned off for the majority of our applications. Doesn't have to be all of them. And for the applications where it can be shut off quickly, the investments has to be made to achive that yesterday. Yes it's not free. Nothing is free. The oil industry is probably the most subsidized industry on the planet btw. You, I and others will pay. When you have kids it's easy to see its the only way. It's not about money or cost effective. It's about people.

Ok, I’m done. I grew up in Canada & have lived in the US for over 30 yrs & for as long as I can remember experts in both countries have warned of what would happen if we didn’t change our behaviors. And here we are. Maybe you can’t blame it all on man made decisions but IMHO you can’t totally discount it either.

How are we supposed to explain the problems to people when we have to start with basic math and foundational logic? Our species is doomed.
I honestly don't think he was ignorant to grade school math rather he didn't want to concede and attempted some mental gymnastics in an effort to prove the counter point right.
