There is only one US based controller that costs $800. If this is true, then I wont buy another one of their products and neither should any other hobbyist. This is the crap that screws the hobbyists over.

I wonder who? This is ********. If this is proven true, I will stay away from the competitor and the retailers.
I thought this would be good for the competitor. It should push them to innovate and gives them a chance to showcase what their stuff can do that the Hydros cant, but if this is true, then it just shows that they know their stuff isnt worth the premium.

I thought this article would get more attention than it has.

There is another thread and it was closed as this one should be too. There is no proof what so ever. Please knock it off.
Wow. Come on saf1. That is ridiculous. So, unless there is proof (which if no one can talk about it or ask questions, then there will never be proof), then we should just ignore it? If this post gets closed, Im leaving Reef to Reef. We should definitely be asking questions. If this is true, it hurts the hobby. We arent here to play politics. If we cant discuss stuff like this then what is the point of this community? Do we just let stuff like this go, because it is a major company involved?

If the company was small or didnt have the power to crush others, would this post still get closed?

Also, if there is proof one way or the other, then great. That is the point of posts like this. If it is all a misunderstanding, then let us know. Dont just close posts, so people will not get mad.

Point of the community is to share knowledge about the hobby. To ask questions. To answer questions. To learn. To teach. This is not sharing of knowledge and if you read the other thread then you would understand. This post, as was the other, are fire starters and attention getters similar to yelling fire in a movie theatre pre C19. It causes harm regardless of the intent when there is no factual information to back up the claim. There was no factual information in the thread you posted or the article. Only assumptions.

Does that mean that journalists should quit reporting if they dont have all the facts? How do we get the facts? Should we not listen to independent information?
Is it not important to discuss? It has nothing to do with yelling fire. This is about sharing knowledge. It is important to the hobby.

As a hobbyist, I would like to have options. I would like to buy equipment from reputable companies that arent going to try to limit our options in the name of money. If I know a company is going to give me less for the money, then that is knowledge.

If it isnt true, great, but we arent going to find out if we dont ask.

Depends. Do you want to be charged with a crime or booked into a cell without proper cause? Just because someone said they thought you did something? Do you see the current world today with talking points and nothing substantial to back it up?

There is no sharing of knowledge in the article or your post because nothing was presented. There was one item in the article that even suggested the statement was incorrect but I guess you missed that. Again. Put up the information or stop spreading misinformation.

If you want to stop buying from any of the assumed vendors more power to you.

Article seems pretty sketchy to me. More speculation and rumor than anything else .... plus pressuring distribution seems pretty clumsy. Hydros seems more aimed at the lower end of the market. Hard to see it as a major disruptor frankly.

Dude, virtually every major scandal started with a news story that didnt have all the facts, but whatever.

I guess you missed this part:

" Coralvue the company behind the Hydros Controller told Reef Builders in an emailed statement: “…it has been brought to our attention that a direct competitor of HYDROS had recently taken several actions that negatively impact our distribution channels, potentially hurting our trusted retail partners of 20+ years, and more importantly, our valued customers who anxiously await our product launch.” said David D’Aquin the owner of Coralvue group located in Louisiana of the United States"

That is a direct quote. We should just ignore it. The owner of Coral Vue risks lawsuits for making a claim like that, but hey, since there is no other information, then everyone should ignore it.

It aims directly at the only major US competitor. It can literally do the same stuff as it the competition, it just doesnt have the accessories.

Nope, didn’t miss that comment .... but what does it actually mean LOL. I can think of a handful of things a company could do that are perfectly legal.

Let’s put the brakes on the ‘best thing ever’ stuff. All too frequently these things get hyped out of sight only to disappoint. Maybe it’ll be a major disruption .... maybe it won’t. Plus, the accessories are what makes controllers like apex and GHL the high end choices ... to discount them rather misses the point. Assuming it works as claimed, I could see the hydros selling well at the lower end of the market. Perhaps I’m the exception, but I’d not personally see it as an equivalency to what I currently use.

Heck, perhaps hydros will do for apex/GHL what Jebao did for ETM .... a price reduction. That’s be cool! FWIW, ETM still sells lots of vortech pumps.

I dont mean to seem like Im trying say Hydros is some amazing thing. Just that if it does do what it says, then it is definitely a major competitor for others.

Their price for the full system is only 50 dollars less than the competitors entry level, which most people probably buy. It is just designed with current technology and ease of use in mind.

The issue is if a competitor is actively trying to block a competing product from market, then that hurts everyone. That is how a company gets to own a market and decide what is made, how much it costs, where its sold, how its sold, and who sells it. The customers get the joy of less innovation, higher prices, and no options.

I dont care if the Hydros cant do what it claims, but they should at least be able to try without being blackballed. If the article is wrong, then that is great. Hopefully it is wrong.

"Let the people know the truth, and the country is safe." ~Abraham Lincoln~. This goes for both sides, and yes, this article is getting attention as it should!

While I agree things like this should get attention, FWIW Marine depot is selling it. So if 1/3 of the retailers claimed in the article actually carries it, maybe the author was in fact just incorrect.

I think BRS said they just havent tested it yet, I think.

Yup, marine depot is carrying it. It is available for pre-order. Would be nice to get to the bottom of the claims in the article.
