Hello all. I’m thinking of ditching my three USA eflux wavepumps for a Gyre 1K on my 60 gallon zoa garden reef. Good idea?

What are the tank dimensions? In my experience, zoas like a moderate flow and that single 1k probably won't be sufficient, especially since it is only 8 inches long.

It’s a 60 gallon cube. Not too sure on dimensions. But I’m tired of replacing the eflux so do you have any suggestions on a powerheads I should try or what gyre I should look into

Two of them would likely work well. I try to avoid having just one pump in a tank so I wouldn't suggest a single IceCap 3K. Two Mp10s would also do very well in that size tank. Two of anything around 1500 GH and running them at about 50% would provide adequate flow as long as they're directed properly. I like a program that moves the turbulence around so the flow isn't static.

Thinking about it more tonight as I look at my tank. Can you post a picture of your tank? I'd like to see what your aquascape looks like. That will really matter.

Don’t know if you can tell by this pic

I have the 3k on my 40B. Spend the extra $30, you will be happier. Always turn down the flow, but you can’t get more if it isn’t enough. The 3k is a monster, I have it 50% and my zoas are swaying.

I run an XF230 (little less power than a 3K) on a custom schedule that's right around 70% most of the time on my 40B. On the other side is an MP10W at about 90% Reef Crest. A single 3k would probably do it if you had it as high as you could without sucking in air and used a mode where it alternated direction throughout the day. This would be like the oceanic gyre cycle on the Maxspect.

Full power with the 3k on my 40 breeder is way to much flow!

Yes, I have the XF230 at the cusp of lifting sand up the side wall. I have crevices and tunnels were I can put lower flow corals around and the high flow is for my high flow SPS up high.

I got rid of sand on this tank because of that. Much happier now.

You may want the 3k. I have the 1k on my 29cube and I let it ramp to 100% at times. The nice thing about these style of pumps is that their flow is spread over a wide area. I have sand movement depending on direction of the fins but not so much that I have bare spots.

I’m just tired of replacing my Eflux pumps every 6 months. But the gyre price is scaring me a bit lol. But with what you are all saying, I’m leaning towards biting the bullet and getting two XF230
