Mines about 1 year old and not it’s so loud with a hum and vibration. Tried cleaning it and it got worse is this normal?

That can happen with the gyre pumps due to the way that they go together, I've found. Generally any excess noise is an indicator that something isn't sitting right. Might want to pull it apart again and re-fit everything; paying close attention to the length of the central rod (the ceramic white one) as well as the fit of the cages. The usual culprit on my pumps is the arm that holds the cage in place; when I get it too snug, it binds and causes louder noise.

Good luck!

Thanks I’m gonna work on this week. Will it hurt anything with vibration?

If it's binding too bad, it could cause excess wear (either on the gearing or the motor itself). The entire thing is pretty forgiving, however, so it's unlikely to be anything but annoying. Really hard to say, however...

Sometimes they do work themselves out and settle in on their own. If it's just a slight whine, it's likely fine. I usually use that as my indicator that it's time to clean the pumps. :)

Thank you! I may just buy a new one to have on hand. This one is a year old

Have you replaced the bushings throughout the gyre?

The last time I did was about 3 months ago because the gyre lost its water moving power. So I figured then I’d clean and replace the worn out parts. Worked flawlessly till now.

I'd check them again. Email coralvue as well, they've been very helpful to me. About every few weeks to a month I pull it apart and clean everything to keep it running smooth.

I actually took it apart last night. Got it running good now. I’m gonna pick up a gyre 1k for my frag tank and I think I’ll pick up the 3k to just have.

I received my 3k about a week ago. It did have a hum when I first put it in, but it seems to be getting better day by day. I have mine at the moment at 40%.

I’ve got mine at 90 and I’ve noticed these do run louder while getting air trapped in them.

i have also experienced this and found doing the reverse gyre minimizes the sound but if i use pulsing it will get loud in a day or two

I have taken my mesh covers that came with the unit off, and have noticed that it is completely silent. If they start getting lots of algae around the inner parts I will put back on, so far I love this unit, and I am in the process of ordering another to have them alternate.
