Ice Cap Gyre 3k

I am looking to purchase one of these but have noticed that there are two different controllers for the same pump out there. I want to get the one that people have le least issues with but I don't know how to tell which is the newer model. One controller is all black and has a large screen on it while the other has a blue plate on it with a small screen in the upper left hand corner.

I have the one with the small screen. Once setup and broken in I have not had any issues with the controller. It is programmed and just works. My 3K has been on the tank for about 9 months.

I have 2 with the blue controller for about 2 yrs now and havent had any issues

The 1st one (saltwater aquarium) is probably the newer version controller, I would get that over the older one.

Hello,

I’m beta testing the ice cap 3k where I have the black controller or the first one you listed as a web site. It has been great so far, it has worked amazing. The black controller is not hard to use, however the instructions how to use it are terrible. I basically went through some online videos and went from there. Once you get the idea it’s really simple to use. I don’t plan on really changing mine, I just needed additional flow and was asked to try it out.

It does add some pretty good flow, and you can set it to do random flow. I have yet lol figured out how to do that exactly. But, it’s not my main wave maker, so all I need it to do is boost the back flow of my tank.

I will say that it is packaged rather nice, and the magnetic device is pretty neat. If you do decide to get one, be careful of the end pieces. Make sure you hold the center piece with one hand, and then use the other to adjust where you want the flow to go.

Hmm, looks like saltwater has 1k photo mislabeled. I had not seen an updated version of this pump ever released. I have the brs one and never had a single issue, bought it about 3 months ago. It was a touch noisy after first cleaning but that was my fault in reassembly, easily correctable.

If you look at Coralvue's website who is the distributor for the Ice Cap products, you'll see that it's the one that Saltwater Aquarium has which should be the newest generation.
