Crabs has recently acquired an Ice Cap Gyre 3K. I love my vortechs but they're not going to be enough for my 75 build.
I am 100% unfamiliar with this pump, so I am hoping to get some help from users who have them. What type of schedule do you run, what mode do you keep them in? Any tips tricks or hacks for programming? I'm looking to do a gyre mode, but unsure what the best settings are (I know each tank is different, but looking for a ball park to get me going) Any and all help is appreciated :)

I am of no help to your original question but have been thinking about buying one of the Icecap gyres for my 75g too. Ive seen a few complaints about the noise of these pumps.

I love the flow pattern but my tank is in my main living area and needs to stay pretty quiet. After you get it setup can you give me a review of the noise level of your gyre!?!

I installed it over my lunch break, and I had it going at around 50% when I left to return to work, and I could not hear it :)

I run an Ice Cap 3k on my 40 breeder. It's set to 40% continuous mode. I tried some presets that I comes with and just couldn't find one I liked.

It does make a humming noise from time to time. I shut it off and turn it back on and the noise is gone. I think the propeller traps air bubbles and this clears them out.

That said, I do like the pump and the flow it puts out.

Good to know, I have this in my 40 breeder for now until I upgrade :)

Also how far down into the water are these units generally mounted? Is there a specific depth they should be?

Running 2 in my 1/2 moon at 100%, 6 sec ramp up/ramp down on gyre. My tank is 29" deep so I placed the horizonally at each end about 6" below the waterline. With your 75 you might try it on 1 end a few inches below the water line on Gyre. I'm thinking you might need a second one for the other end or put one of your vortechs to work again.

I never set up a schedule, I usually adjust manually. You might try the bubble test so you can see your flow. I placed mine in after I added my live sand when the water was still murky, it gave me a great visual of my flow.

I have two 3k’s in my 150g. They’re the older model with the blue controller. I Don’t know how similar the programming is with the latest black controller but I like the increasing pulse mode. I have one mounted horizontally probably just 2 inches below the surface & just enough behind the front glass to not interfere with the MagFloat. I set up a schedule with my interpretation of a tidal pattern. The second one is mounted vertically just about 4 inches off the sand bed in the opposite corner of the tank. I have this one set to run constant pulse mode to just 20% for most of the schedule. They both stop completely for several hours simultaneously. I don’t know exactly how old mine are because I bought them used but as mentioned before mine too get noisy at times. Turning them off & right back on usually remedies things. I do clean them probably once a month too.

Depending on how you want the flow pattern. Ran ours about 4-6" down since I ran it at a high percent. You can adjust the cages as well so you don't pull in air. I liked a lot of surface agitation.

I run my 1k about 2" below the water line. Right now I have a setting of 90% 2sec pulse from 8am-10pm and and 10pm-8am its a 60% random mode.
if they seem to make noise from trapping bubbles they seem to be worse at that if mounted vertical. Mine has done that before you can setup to run a reverse mode setting. like a 2sec reverse and it will kick out that bubble
