Run a extension cord from the car with the inverter. Heat the tank back up. Start the car and let it run.

This is what I did with a 30 gal reef during a 60hr outage a few years back switched from my truck to my wife's car and back and forth provided enough electric to run a small heater and a pump to move water. Didn't loss a single coral or fish.

what you need..
Tupperware bowl
some hand warmer packs

float bowl in tank ...put some water in bowl
put hand warmers in water in bowl floating in tank
water gets pretty warm so watch it
heats tank water

If your no "McGiver" go with the warmers (you can put them in a zip lock bag with a stone so they sink to the bottom where the cold water is, more efficient) and a 5g bucket on each end of your tank with a few holes so water can pore in and give your tank oxygen and flow, not to big but make a couple of bigger holes. You'll have to keep adding water to your buckets :(
So sorry

Well I'm glad to announce that power came back in at around 7pm lastnight and my fish seem to be just fine temp is back up and everything is normal. I can't say the same for my parents fish my parents lost 3 cichlids even knowing there tanks were still between 67 and 70.

Which reminds me. I know cichlids at one time were saltwater fish that slowly adapted to freshwater but is there a way to carefully and slowly add salt to a cichlid tank and convert them back to salt water within about 5 years or would that process take way longer.

I am glad that your ordeal has a happy ending. Hooray!!! Sorry for the fish your parents lost. Were they African cichlids? I heard they were from cold water lakes so I am surprised that 67 would harm them.

They were not the African cichlids but they are thinking about setting some tanks up just for them a few months down the road

And I'm surprised my take lost heat soo quickly I thought with it being saltwater the temp would last a little due to it being more dense

My 36g tank cools off so much faster than my 90g used to. I always figured if we lost power for a long duration here I'd use our fireplace which is only about 10-12 ft from the tank. The fireplace would keep the room reasonable, especially if I hung blankets to keep the heat near the tank. We have a kerosene heater too but we care for my husband's mother who is 92 and completely bedridden so we'd have to use the kerosene heater for her room.

If you have a hot water heater then you have hot water coming out of the sink.
Here's what you do:
You fill up a ziplock bag with hot water and put it in the tank. Make sure it's sealed so you don't mix the water. Swap it out every now and then cause the temp will try to equalize.
I've done this a few days ago before my generator was finally installed. I maintained the tank at 72 degrees
