IceCap Algae Turf Scrubber, as HOB?

I've got a 40 breeder that acts as a coral QT, though there's been a long term resident occelaris clown so maybe it's a bit less of a QT and more of a second tank. Anyhow, my former plan of a HOB filter just doesn't cut it for nutrient control (as expected) and I'd like to set up the IceCap in a HOB configuration. Has anyone done this? I'm fine with the mounting not looking great as it's in my basement, but want to make sure water will stay contained nicely. I'm only looking at the small 20 watt unit as I don't feed the tank much, but would also appreciate any input on sizing.

The tank has been cycled and running for years and I'm just looking to address the nutrients. I rarely used it for QT as I didn't add stuff often but want to improve it as I'm planning to start bringing in a bunch of frags to start growing out so my upcoming display is a bit less barren when I get it stable. It's most likely going to be a 220 with 180 sump/frag tank but time and the cost of wood are big limiting factors. It's not that I can't buy the wood, but the sticker shock is crazy now and I expect prices will begin to fall as the world gets back to normal.

Because of the way the output and emergency lines exit the scrubber, you’ll have to set it up as a “sit on top“ as opposed to a “hang on back”. Build a pvc platform in the back corner of the tank so you can have the unit safely drain back into the tank.

Thanks. I’m pretty flexible, though I’m going to have to figure out how to hide the pump. I’m trying to keep it easy yet not heinous. I’m probably going to redo the system with a sump at some point, but I’ve got to get a real display running first.

we need a hang on.. unfortunatley- on the ice cap - I think the screen and size and capacity is too small for what it's rated...some inside photos would help or a video of it in operation would be nice

We have been running it on a 59 gallon for well over a year .. it’s doing so well the skimmer was pulled off the system.

I have a space problem in my tank so thinking about the Ice Cap HOB scrubber as its the only HOB I've found on the net. Anyone have any experience with it?
