I have a 240Gal tank, and I am not really happy with my flow. I have to 3000gph powerheads, but I don't think it's doing what I need due to the linear flow. I am debating a few options, but all include the Icecap Gyre. Option 1 is to add a Gyre on one end of the tank and use the 2 powerheads on the other. Option 2 is to use 2 Gyres and ditch the powerheads. Option 3 which is likely the least preferred is to run 2 gyres and both powerheads.

I think 3 is overkill. If I were to go with option 1 or 2 should I use the 1k or 3k versions? I was thinking if I was running a 1k at each end it would likely be plenty, but wanted to get other opinions.

For a 240 I would skip the 1k icecap. I have the Icecap 1k on my 30g if that gives you an idea. Get two Maxspect Gyre FX230 or 2x Icecap 3k and put one on each end or both on the back of the tank. If you just want one, then maybe a fx250.

If I still had my 105g I would of gone with 2 icecaps 3k's.

I have a 3k on one side and 2 MP40QD on the other side. Flow is nice in my 6’ 180.

I do however have a minimalistic LR setup.

The guy I bought my used 120 48x24x24 from had upgraded to a 180 72x24x24. He was using two Gyre 250's and was happy with it. I didn't inquire as to what setting he had on it.
I decided to go with two of the Gyre 250's on the 120 I got from him also, and figured I'd keep them at around 40% or less each just didn't want to be underpowered. I have them at 20% and 30% and I still have so much flow I'm going to go down to 20% and 20%. I think I could have went with the 150's pretty easily. The two return jet's flow helps to pick up some cross current.
Don't know if that helps at all for your 250, just some perspective. I've heard of two Gyres and a third smaller typical pump on the back to help with dead spots that may be around because if heavy rock work on very long tanks.

Just so happen 1k just died only 3 months old. I replaced all the bushings and parts still will not spin. It goes from 100% to 0 or any speed goes to 0. I did see a 13 popup on the lcd for a second.

Should still be under warranty then

I think 2 icecap 3k would be fine for 180g

Just saw that Red Sea is putting out a product called ReefWave based on the Gyre.

Yep, have to agree with tvu 2 3ks should do the trick
