Not sure if this is normal. It looks like I can see the magnet. Does this not make it possible to rust?

After researching it looks like it’s the design. Idk though I feel nervous using it . I’m sure it’s safe if that’s the design but always have the thought that magnet + saltwater = badI have two brand new ones in the box. I'll go pull one out now and look.
I think the type of magnet it is cannot rust. But not really sure. This magnet appears to be coated (with epoxy I presume). However, it's at best a thin coating as I can see significant finish variations on one end of mine.
Looks like time will tell. However, I will be watching carefully for anytime it gets bumped and possibly scratched or nicked.
Was wondering if you got anywhere with this because after opening my new 4K I seen the magnet exposed and did a quick search I wish I would’ve found this thread before I bought them. Does anyone have any answers for this question?I think the type of magnet it is cannot rust. But not really sure.

So if it does not rust then it does not release any unwanted minerals into the water? This type of magnet does not rust. It’s similar to the magnet used on mag drive pumps for the impeller.
