Icecap K2 120

Hello all, I wanted some information on this protein skimmer. Anyone out there running it that would like to share some insight on how good or bad the skimmer is? It looks like a beautiful model but I did wonder about the impeller and the pump. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

I am running one on a 75 gallon system that is lightly stocked. Very quiet and have been up for about 6 months. It's been pretty good so far and I would say it would be great for a heavily stocked 75g.

I like my k2-120. Quiet and consistent. Has never overflowed. Cup is easy to remove. Mostly titanium hardware. There was a washer on top of the bubble chamber that rusted after a year. I just removed the washer and reassembled without it. I got mine right after they were released so maybe they fixed it. Disassembly is easy, but not tool less as it requires two sizes of allen wrenches (one for the base screws and one for the pump mount screws). The Sicce pump lasted about 2 years until the housing around the impeller cracked. I think the intake got plugged up with algae and it overheated. Replacement pump was only $70 direct from Coralvue.

Not the best picture, but I've had mine for about a year and a half. Skims a heavily fed 65g, pulls out nasty nasty. I was very impressed with it, so much so that I bought the 160 for my new DT and the 50 for my frag tank - all three are great.

If you don’t mind me chiming in... what water depth are you guys running your K2-120 s in?

I had to put the 120 on a little egg crate platform, offhand I can't remember the exact height. The water line on that tank is about 2" below the visible trim line for the skimmer chamber on an Aqueon 20L.
