I was given an IceCap salinity pen that seems entirely inaccurate.

I tried the method in this video to calibrate it but to no success.

I also tried the CoralVue video instructions in this video:

Note: Using a scale, reagent grade Sodium Chloride, and RO I mixed up and tried 30ppt (shown in 1st video) and 35ppt (CoralVue video) calibration solutions.

Regardless of which solution I use calibrate everything reads back at 1.037-1.039 including the solutions.

I have also tried initializing the pen and replacing the battery.

Recommendations?

Sorry, that it reads wrong. I never used one.

I use a cheap hydrometer that I calibrate every year or so now (I did it every 3 months for a couple of years). Yes, it reads wrong. It says 1.021 when a calibrated refractometer says 1.026. So I labeled the hydrometer "ADD 0.005". It's always been 0.005 too low for many years now. I consider it more reliable than the refractometer which needs calibration every so often.

Try to get it replaced. Some of the earlier builds would start reading crazy numbers and couldn't re-calibrate. They replaced mine with no hassle. They may replace it without a receipt since it was a gift. They know this was caused by a manufacturing defect and was not something you caused.
