Icecap sump owners filter sock question

Says on marine depots website that the socks are proprietary anyone fine this to be true ive got a stock pile of 4in socks i really dont care to replace

I think the only thing "proprietary" is the plastic collar on the top of the sock, which fits in to the sock holder. I would the socks you have and I'll bet you find they work just fine. My sump came with the same type socks and I didn't use them...I used my standard 4" socks.
