Hey eveyone! Fighting an ich outbreak in m my tank and set up a hospital system.I was able o remove 4 of the affected fish (clowns, yellow tang, cleaner goby), but 2 of my smallest fish cannot be caught (res head goby and court jester) as they are less than an inch long. It's clear the redhead has ich but not the jester. They can both fit into the tiniest of holes in my rock and wont budge after getting he rock out. Should I see I I see if they survive the illness in the tank? They are both eating a probiotic food.Everyone in the hospital tank is being treated with stabilized ionic copper and doing really well.
Any thoughts?

If they remain your treatment will be in vain. You’ll reintroduce medicated and weakened fish in to a system with the same pathogen that weakened them and made them ill. I know it’s not fun but remove them at all costs. I’ve had to remove rocks and beat around until they drop out. Otherwise you’ll have a repeat with aggravation that served no purpose.

Sorry I am sure that’s not what you wanted to hear.

You're right. Not wanted I wanted to hear but what I needed to hear. It took several hours, but I did get those 2 out of my display and into QT. I caught myself trying to cut a corner that would have cost me more money and set my tank back 6 months.

You definitely made the right call. Everyone HATES quarantining fish, but it is one of the few predictable ways to success. Good luck with the process and I hope you post updates as you go along.

I will keep you updated. Currently doing a water change every other day and re medicating after doing so. Treatment consists of Curpion from Brightwell. I also add a Stability and Prime in the mornings just to help with the bioload.

Don’t use prime with any copper other than coppersafe. It will make the copper toxic. No ammonia neutralizers with copper was the old rule but as it turns out chelates copper is safe, ionic copper (cuprion and cupramine) it is not.

Water changes and Biospira in sponge media will help keep ammonia at bay for the duration.
I have also found Stability by seachem to be 100% worthless for QT purposes and establishing a bio filter in short order.

Thanks for the heads up! I was unaware of the toxicity caused by Prime!

So time for an update on the QT system.
I have been conducting small water changes every other day and monitoring ionic copper levels with a salifert test kit. I have also been feeding probiotic foods, Seachem Nutridiet marine and chlorellia flakes soaked in metroplex, focus, and garlic guard. The cysts have completely dissapeared from all fish and the yellow tang, who had the start of hlle, has healed up to 100%. I am continuing to run a coarse of oral meds, as it has only been a week since they started.

Unfortunately,I did lose some fish to ich. Lost a clown goby, tiny clownfish, court jester, and a tangaroa goby.

Soda water (no flavor or sugar) poured over live rock usually ejects most inhabitants. If you have a soda stream you can even carbonate salt water, but the plain soda water is fine for fish if you remove them immediately. Make sure to do it in a bucket so they don’t accidentally go down the drain.

Sorry, just saw that you got everyone out. Save this for next time!
