I have some rock that was exposed to ich, and I was originally going to let the rock sit in a tub for 3-4 months and hope that would be enough time to safely use it in a tank again.

I am wondering though if I soaked the rock in water/bleach solution would that kill the ich cysts that might possibly be present on the rock?

The rock itself has no visible life such as corals or anything, it was just in a tank with fish for the past 6-7 months, so not worried about killing the bacteria and other microscopic life.

I have bleached rock before to clean and kill algae when getting rock from other people, but never specifically to kill ich, so just wondering if bleach kills ich when in cyst form, I assume any free swimmers would die for sure.

Thanks.

Maintaining 60ppm chlorine for 24 hours will kill all ich life stages.

Awesome, I knew you would have the answer.

I was pretty sure it would work, but didn't know for sure, according to online calculator, I have approx 600ppm chlorine so should be all good...

Do you have to do anything to the rock after the chlorine treatment to make it safe for putting back into the tank? Does it kill all the beneficial bacteria?
