Advice please - I came home tonight to find a few white spots on my Mandarin Goby [emoji53].

He’s new to the tank. Is this ich? I don’t see any spots on the other fish...I have no option to quarantine. I’ve been reading that people suggest peroxide - 1 oz (2 TBL)/every 10 gals tank water. Thoughts? I’m not going to be able to get anything else until later tomorrow light on way home from work but if this peroxide thing will work I’d be willing to start the process tonight. I also have minced garlic in the house and have read garlic water. How long would I do either one/both of these for? Will it damage any of the other fish/corals?

My wife thinks it’s sand...I don’t know

Help!

My wife was right...I feel like an idiot [emoji849] - was so worried. Sorry to bother you all

HAHA - not bothering us! I was going to say the same thing! Those spots are WAY too big to be ich. Mandarin's have a very thick slime coat, and can pick up sand easily. Glad he is ok!
You might want to look at a quarantine tank for the future before you bring new fish in. I have brought ich into my main tank a couple years ago when I started and lost almost all of my fish. You just need a 10 gallon tank, and it is pretty easy! If you have questions, we are all here to help. :)

Haha yeah. My face is blushing [emoji5]

Would a 5 gallon be ok? I found this on Amazon and would be fine with running with a small piece of rock and some sand in another room

Petco 1 dollar tank sale, a HOB filter and you are in business

Yeah - you don't want to put sand and rock in a QT. If you have to dose medication, you want to keep it simple! PVC pipes for them to hide in. Here is a great article on how to get set up. But I will never run a tank without QT'ing my fish ever again. That sinking feeling of all of them getting sick is horrible. And you have to be able to take them out if they do get sick, depending on the illness.

I always think my tailspot Blenny has ich. Turns out every time I do it’s from him sleeping in the rockwork with detritus settling on him hahaha.
