Can some people please help me confirm that this is ich or not and what I should do? It showed up pretty suddenly. It is not noticeable on the 2 3stripe damsels. He may be bothered by the itching and or pain by the spots because he is darting around and possibly scratching himself a little bit. Otherwise eating pretty well and very healthy. Thank you for any advice!

Why not Ich? Looks like it could be bad case of ich to me. Either way, that fish is in big trouble, needs treatment NOW.

I appreciate all of the help very very much guys. I put him in FW for 3 minutes as it's what I could do for tonight. Good news, virtually all of the hard white dots seem to have came off. My best plan is to buy a cheap 10 gallon of something quickly or use a 5 gal bucket with the ich treatment that has the right chemical in it and leave him in it for a few days at least depending on how he looks. I'll have to set up a proper quarantine that one can be happy in. I have a 10 micron filter sock so that will help a bit with free floating I would say. I don't know a whole lot yet but I would guess that there shouldn't really be any or much free floating yet but I only have so much at my disposal for treatment. Will keep you all updated.

Spots are to small to be ich, the fact that it progressed from nothing to this in a few days is also a tell tale sign of velvet. If it we're ich, it would have taken much longer to progress to that level.

That’s like saying why is it pneumonia and not bronchitis. The symptoms are similar but some differences. Main thing is velvet is smaller than Ich and usually has a much heavier infestation on the body. If you can count the dots it’s usually Ich.

Did the white dots detach while he was in the FW dip and settle to the bottom of the bucket? Do any white dots remain on him following the FW dip?

I thought some of those white dots looked odd. What you may be dealing with here is a mix of flukes & velvet.

I'm pretty sure the bucket was nearly sterile before I did it and now there are a ton of white dots at the bottom. Maybe some tiny bits floating but it could be debris. A lot of them are really big and some are relatively smaller. No hard specs remained after the dip but there are some lighter SPOTS on his fins, presumably from the damage of the parasite and not a remaining giant clear parasite.

I will take pictures of the dots this evening when I am home and give you guys a better idea :)

I got prazipro and medic by polyp lab. So I think that I'll use the prazi once and put the medic in the tank and hope it works. It talks itself up a bit, it's from polyp lab, and it was expensive, so I'm hopeful

Picture of the white dots. Pretty sure it's not sand. More dots are back so I'll dip again then dose
