I have a 45 gal tank...60lbs live rock, mushroom corals, anchor coral, and some polyps. 3 green chromis, 2 clowns, bi color angel and a hippo tang which I just put in on 06-24. Last Friday, the 29th I noticed some ich spots on the hippo tang. Per the advise of pet shop, I put in a cleaner shrimp and the hippo keeps going to it. I don't see the ich on other fish yet and I want to try and stop it before it spreads. Is any here familiar with Ruby Reef Kick-Ich. They say its reef safe but I'm not so sure. Any advice I can get will help, thanks all.

if heard storys from some people were nothing happened to anything and i have heard storys were it killed all there corals and inverts. tangs are notorious ich magnets. keep it well feed. but your best bet is to pull it put it in qt and treat it

+1, I would remove it to qt if possible. I have had luck in the past many years ago when one of my fish got ick it ended up dieing and not contaminating the others but it's better to be safe than sorry.

If you dont have a fish trap then don't try and catch it. The extra stress will only make it worse. The best thing to do is a 20% water change and keep it well fed. As long as it eats and water quality is good, it will beat the ick on its own. At this point, if the water quality is good the other fish should be safe. Most fish imune systems can keep away ick, when a fish is stressed it can weaken the imune system and get an outbreak. The tang has likely been stressed being the new fish in the system so he had an ick outbreak, if he eats and settles in, his imune system will beat it. The rest of the fish will be fine as long as water quality is good and they are not stressed.

Thank you for that! First prositive news i've had all day! I am doing the 20% tomorrow anyway and its still eating. I'll keep you all posted.

So far its looking good, hippo tang is getting better and all fish are eating, supplementing the food with garlic now and another water change tomorrow.

Several weeks later, still have not lost any fish but ich is still there, I am doing 20% water changes weekly, feeding high quality food with some liquid garlic added. Fish are eating well, but the ich seems to be getting worse on the Hippo Tang and my Royal Gramma. Like I said both are still eating well, not sure what else I can do. I did add a cleaner shrimp that set up its cleaning station, but then I was told they will not eat ich nor will a cleaner wrasse which I was told to get.

I had a hippo tang in a prior tank. He had ich often. I never treated him. He stayed in my tank for close to a year before I sold that setup and started a new tank. As long as he eats well, especially nori he should be fine. Pick up some selcon and soak his food in it.
