Understood, however I've always kept tangs quite successfully and any sign of ich I would feed metro and within two weeks it would be gone or seemingly so. However also this tang which I've had for months or has been great. I'm just doing what's right and trying to treat before it gets worse. He seems unaffected be I know he is suffering to some degree with visible ich. If you think I was complaining about having to do this you may have me misunderstood. it's all part of reefkeeping.[emoji3]Ich on a tang is like breakfast grits in the South. If you didn't want grits, why did you order breakfast?
Formalin dip, then qt tank still deciding on cp or copper treatment or both. I'm putting my starry blenny and my flame hawk through treatment as well and display fish less for at least 72 daysWhat's ur qt plan?
I had a Blue Tang break out and took out all but 2 fish my sailfin tang and melanarus wrasse that I bought at the same time as the Blue Tang. Seems the blue tang had just came in to the LFS when I bought him. My Sailfin did not look as if he was going to make it, however he placed himself in front of a power head and stayed there for a week. I have used a Vortex Diatom Filter on my tanks for years for both fresh and saltwater. Purchased a Marineland 350 magnum hang on the back filter with the micron paper filter replacing the Vortex Diatom filter which is harder to find the diatom powder at times. The wrasse just shed a mucus layer and never showed any signs of the ich. The filter helps polish the water and removes the frefloating ich . I usually run it for a month or so after the last signs of the pest. Dropping the salinity also helps during the infestation period. Have had aquariums since I was 8 years old and that was the first time I lost a fish due to ich and my first tank wipe. That was 3 years ago and I am 62 years old. I still don't use a QT as a general rule. I do have a frag tank set u now that I may use to get a new fish eating and immune system up before placing into my display tanks as I have had 2 tangs and a flame angel die because the arrived real thin and not eating.Understood, however I've always kept tangs quite successfully and any sign of ich I would feed metro and within two weeks it would be gone or seemingly so. A tang that swims in to a powerhead has velvet, rather than ich.
Agreed. I used to know why but why dont you explain it to the op 4ford. If i remember doesnt it have something to do with oxygen?
That is exactly what i thought. But wanted to be sure before i posted it.They swim into the flow of a powerhead to seek relief from the parasites clogging up their gills.
I thought it was because it pushed higher volumes of oxygen through their damaged gills in a desperate attempt to breathe better-- much as you would revive a fish you caught that is weak by rocking it back and forth forcing water through its gills. They swim into the flow of a powerhead to seek relief from the parasites clogging up their gills. I'd love to know if they actually succeed with dislodging some of the trophonts by doing this.
Id say it accomplishes both. Because if it helps dislodge trophants, it also free the guild and gets better oxygen to them as wellI thought it was because it pushed higher volumes of oxygen through their damaged gills in a desperate attempt to breathe better-- much as you would revive a fish you caught that is weak by rocking it back and forth forcing water through its gills.
