Fish in dt for 3 months and occasionally i saw white faded spots on clown, did not look like ich. Today noticed that one clown has many faded spots. Is that ich or brook? Pic in the attachment.

No other fish seem to show any signs of anything have 2 tangs, midas, damsels, coral beauty. So i i think its brook. What are your opinions?

I’m personally going thru a velvet stage with my fish, had em in QT for less than a week and already lost 3 fish. Personally I don’t see anything other than a blemish maybe? Is the clown acting weird at all?

Nope, acting like normal clown, not sure if esting tough. But will transfer him to qt today. Thinking that its brook because tangs and other fish have nothing on them.

Are you referring to the small specks on his fin and belly? Sorry I didn’t even notice them before.. just looked like a discoloring blemish for some reason.

@4FordFamily

The spots on fins do resemble velvet IMO

Brook very likely as well with clowns. Do you have any other fish in tank? If so, do you see anything on any of them?

That is the strangest part, no fish exibit symptoms, other clown looks good.

Will transfer him to qt with cp today and will monitor other fish for couple of days.

On the belly i can see exsesive mucus, like skin peeling off.

Wonder if i should slowly transfer all the fish to qt or not? That would be a pain to get them out.

With tangs present, if that was velvet they’d be in rough shape. The fin does resemble velvet but the timeline, the fact that other fish seem unaffected, appearance, and the fact it’s clown point me toward almost certain brook.

if you are seeing what appears to be skin peeling, that is a symptom of brook for sure.

Personally I would treat all your fish. Clowns are most susceptible to Brook. But what could happen, is if you treat only him, and then place him back into DT after treatment he could get re-infected. The other fish could be hosting the parasite without visible symptoms.

Exactly my thoughts. What should i do with the rest of the fish?

I would QT all your fish and treat with these two medications:
  1. Copper for 30 days
  2. Metro for 14 days
That will cover all external parasites, including ich, velvet, brook & uronema. You can safely combine the two medications. The blue links above provide detailed information for each treatment.

Ok, thanks, so now there is plan of action, just tried netting clowns - did not work. Will trie fish trap.

I hope that two tangs, midas, coral beauty, two clowns and two damsels will not overpolute and stress them selves in a 30g qt.

What kind of filtration do you have in the QT? Have had excellent results with Aquaclear with foam pad & ceramic media both treated with BioSpira or soaked in display tank's sump.

I filled my sump with bunch of ceramic rings and some matrix type media. Plus ~50x turnover with a sock filter to sump.
Should be sufficient.

So day 9 did not pull out fish. Since i am not sure its ich or brook or velvet.

If brook then the clown should be dead by now.

Velvet - the same

Might be ich - BUT only this clown has it. Both tangs and coral beauty happily swimming without any symptoms. Also other fish seem uneffected.

Also ich would be more like saltgrains these spots look a bit faded and doesnt stand out.

So the spots dissapeared in 2 days. Today they are back on that one clown.

Qt is up and running but i do not want to stress out all the fish as i am not sure what is it.

Any more ideas on what might it be?
