Ich or velvet? Copper treatment?

Bought a black clown from my lfs and a few days later i noticed a few small white spots. 2 weeks later i noticed these on my hi hat. Is it ich or velvet? Is this copper medicine i have good enough? How do i treat them? I have a 20 gallon to treat them in

If you can count the dots, it's ich. Even if it turns out to be velvet, Coppersafe works wonders on both. You need a QT tank with a sponge filter seeded with bacteria (Seachem Stability). Five minute fresh water dip first. Then a 90 minute bath in saltwater mixed with Reef Rally (acriflavine). Then slowly ramp up Coppersafe to therapeutic level and continue for 30 days. Keep an eye out for ammonia and test daily for copper levels. Use only Seachem Ammonia Alert and API Copper Test Kit. Display tank has to be fishless for 76 days. Nothing "wet". Also the QT has to be at least 10 feet away from DT. Good luck. Also you can see Humblefish's sticky note: it can explain better.

Do a freshwater dip to confirm if flukes are present. If it turns out icky, the copper treatment is reccomended.

Where do you see flukes?

You'll see them fall out of the gills (if your fish has flukes) about 3 or 4 minutes after you start the freshwater dip. Use a black or other dark bucket so you can see the flukes. Maybe use a flashlight. Look for little white specks.

I didn't exactly say I see flukes. I've seen white spots on fish that can appear similar to a spot of ich. If you look a bit closer on the tail the spots seem a bit larger that the typical ich spot. Observation is the key rather than judging from pics posted. FW dip will confirm if flukes are present. If it is ich a FW dip may provide some temporary relief for the fish also.

Flukes appear to change form. You can see them move across the skin of the fish or protrude out of the skin. In most cases I've see with flukes attached to the skin of the fish. The fluke will almost appears to look like a little flag flapping around. I would recommend getting RODI FW dip. Get the water up to same temp which the tank the fish resides in. Also add a little baking soda to bring up the PH prior to adding the fish and use an air stone to aerate the water. Within first 3-4 minutes you should see the flukes either fall off, wiggle out of the skin or drop from the gills. Its best to use a black container of clear. Use a flashlight to confirm if you see the flukes. They should turn opaque or white. Most of them will thrash around until the FW kills them. If the flukes are present you may want to do a quick paraguard bath then start a QT with two-three rounds of prazi treatment. If the flukes are bad you may want to do FW dips every 4-5 days and definitely before adding back to your Display tank to confirm none are present still. Good luck

Its a perfect circle but a little bit bigger than the ones on the hi hat. He has some that are noticable only if you stare for a while. They are very small and look faded almost to where you cant see them. Could that be velvet?

There is a good chance other fish may have them. Thing with flukes is its treatable and not as bad as ich/velvet. Also you can treat your display tank with prazi since it is reef safe.
