I have a 80 gallon and there is ich I can see the salt spots on my 2.5 inch blue tang. I have no corals and a few inverts which I can move over to my bio cube . Can I then make my DP tank to hypo salinity to clear tank of ich ? What will happen to my nitrifying bacteria ? Can they survive 1.009 SG salinity level ?

If you can take all them out and do a tank transfer method with some added prazi pro that’s great! If you can also leave the inverts in another tank to keep them safe as well. With the bacteria, don’t overthink it, drop the salinity to as low as you need to and leave it for the time being until the ich all dies off and when you go back to your regular levels it will all catch up in no time.
I had ich once and it’s because I didn’t quarantine my morishidol I got!! Worse mistake of my life!! I lost almost all my livestock! I fallowed my tank for I think 75 days with no fish, inverts and I treated the remaining fish and had them in another system until it was done. I’ve read some articles about the ich going dormant so idk if I would use the hyposalinity method personally because I wouldn’t want the ich to be in there and have to redo another plan. Do what’s best for you. Good luck!

I recommend Polyp Labs Reef Medic. I had an ich out break and used that on my DT and it was eradicated in 18 days of daily dosing. It did no harm to my inverts or corals.

@Josh_boss I do have cupramine - Seachem . whats your take on that?

problem here in Canada is all medicine for reef is banned by Canada's health organization. all I have is a bottle of cupramine by Seachem

Not needed, cooper can be more stress to the fish. Just so the tank transfer method and it will rid the ich. I didn’t believe that it worked but I do it every time and has never failed me. “Even the sick petco fish” gets cured. If not do what Phil D said. Seems like he had good results and it seems easy!

by tank transfer method you mean to pull all fishes out in to a QT?

Oh I see, yeah just do the tank transfer method for the fish!
The tank just bring the salt level even lower than the recommendation so that you are 100% that it will die. You need to know how longit takes for the ich eggs to hatch and leave it past that time!

Yea, you put them in tubs or empty tanks with just a heater, carbonless filter, and maybe a small power head. You will need to move them into a duplicate tank in three days and clean up the 1st system and let it dry then in 3 days put them in the clean tank and clean the 2nd system. Do that back and fourth 4 times. Every 3 days for 4 transfers. Make sure you clean the system each time with fresh water and let it dry. How many fish do you have ? And what kind/size?

IMO, if you can move your fish, letting your tank go fallow is the best way to eradicate. I believe @Humblefish has a good thread on hypo salinity, if you want to go that route

Oh okay so small fish, you can use bins from like Walmart it’s cheap, you need 2 bins, 2filters, 2 heaters. You want to be sure you don’t cross contaminate so don’t put the 2 tubs next to each other encase you splash water or any other reason. You also want to bet the fish and try not to put any water from the dirty tank into the clean tank(try to just let the fish jump into the new tank or nicely drop it in. I place a tower down so I can place the new for a second to catch the dripping water. I normally use the water from my DT to fill the transfer tubs but you have ich so you can’t so that, just make sure you acclimate them to go into the transfer tank the first time. After that you should have the same water chemistry from the mixed water then when you get ready to put them back you need to acclimate them to go back into the DT(after you treated the ich)

Place a towel down
Place the net on the towel to catch the dripping water.
