Reader's Digest Version:

1. Purchased a Valentino Puffer and QT'd.

2. 10 Days in to QT, Ich spots appeared.

3. Went with fresh water dips and hypo-salinity for treatment.

4. Dropped salinity down to 12ppt over 12 days and 8 minute fresh water dip every day.

5. QT at 12ppt for 14 days.

6. Fresh water dip cleared ich spots up within 5 days.

7. Puffer has been spot-free, eating and happy for 10 days.

SO:

1. How much longer do I continue doing FW dips?

2. How long do I maintain 12ppt before beginning to increase?

3. When is it safe to put this guy in the DT?

No reason to go fallow for 72 days in the DT as the puffer never made it to the DT.

Thank you in advance.

Dom

Don't ever assume ich is gone lol. Have you been treating with copper at all or just hypo salinity?
@Maritimer What's your thought.

I will let others chime in on the hypo salinity factor (I do not have any personal experience with it and it's not a method I care to opt for), however freshwater dips every day is extremely harsh on a fish's body let alone 8 minutes , 5 minutes is the recommended max. If nothing else I would encourage you to forego the freshwater dips for a few days until the puffers body can recover. If you want to be certain the ich is treated, there are hypo salinity resistant strains of ich, then CP sourced from diamondbackdrugs or TTM (if you know 100% it's ich) would be a better option.

Assuming this is ich and not a hypo resistant strain, then 30 days @ 12ppt would be needed to have a good chance of eradication.

However, I would observe for 2-4 weeks afterwards just to be safe.

No chemicals. Just hyposalinity and FW dips. How long should I continue the dips?

Whats done is done. He seemed to tolerate everything well.

Oh... I'm patient. This guy won't see the DT until after the new year. In fact, I'm in the planning stages of a new build so it may not be until spring some time.
