Ich that comes and goes in 24 hours???

2 nights ago my purple tang looked like it had ich (tiny white spots), yesterday morning it didn't have any white SPS but the blue hippo did, by mid afternoon neither had the spots. This morning purple tang has them again... Thoughts?

I've seen this happen on the fish in my systems too, not sure what's going on. All eat well, don't seems stressed and don't scratch.

This is what happens, Ich has 3 life stages, one life stage it is visible on the fish, the next is in a cyst on the rocks, and the third is free floating in the water. The only stage you can actually see it is while its attached to the fish.

Dan, that's exactly what's happening. No scratching. Everyone's eating fine...no explanation.

Paul, I'm familiar with the life stages of ich. I've had to deal with it before, but I've never seen the spots (visible stage) coffee and go in less than 24 hours and then come back again just as fast...that's the weird part.

how many white "spots" do you see on the fish? it could be sand that got stuck on the fish when they lay down, unless you have a bb tank.

YOu have healthy fish, they get realatively spooked and will show the signs, but its not going to overtake them at this stage, you've taken care of them to well. But in a nut shell, you will see this from time to time on these fish, it never leaves the tank, they basically always have it. I haven't added a fish in my tank for over a year, and my stupid Hippo comes up with ICH every once in awhile, but goes away right quick.
